Review
Travel to the South-American jungle for an encounter with the majestic cat on the slot from Bad Dingo powered by Yggdrasil Gaming’s YG Masters platform. Jaguar Super Ways is taking the unpredictability of a dynamic reel concept to a new level as the grid can grow from a default 5×3 format to a mega 9×9 size with up to 387,420,489 bet ways. Brave spinners facing the mighty jaguar can look forward to wild substitutions, cascading symbols, Super Ways reel expansions and a free spins round that can lead to wins of up to 22,457 times your bet.
Slot Details
Jaguar Super Ways is a cascading video slot with five reels, three rows and 243 ways to win as default. Throughout the gameplay, the size can gradually increase up to a 9×9 format with a maximum of 387,420,489 ways. Wins are awarded for three to nine matching symbols landing on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can face the mighty wild cat on desktop, tablet or mobile from 0.40 to 10 credits per spin (possibly higher based on operator). The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 94.259% and a hit rate of roughly 1:2.5 spins.
Update: Initially, the RTP was stated by Yggdrasil Gaming with 96.25%, however, the real value is a rather disappointing 94.259%. Unfortunately, offering slots in the 94.xx% RTP range is a current trend in the industry.
Loading the game will take you deep into the dense South-American jungle where the mighty predator has his main hunting grounds. Sun rays protrude through the lush greenery that serves as the background to the dynamic reel set. It appears normal at first with carved stones surrounding the default 5×3 game window but soon starts to expand in an unpredictable manner the soon you trigger the Super Ways feature. Cries from the jaguar overpower intermittently the otherwise rather simple EDM audio loop.
The pay symbols start at the low end with card royals from 9 through to A, awarding 0.125x to 0.25x your bet for a single five of a kind. Hitting nine across the reels will yield between 1.25x to 2.5x your stake. They are followed by green gems, frogs, snakes and vultures. A five of a kind will pay 0.375x to 1.25x your bet while a nine of a kind raises the values to 3.75x to 7.5x your stake. The majestic jaguar is the wild, appearing on all reels but the first and performing the usual substitutions duties while a temple serves as the scatter.
Jaguar Super Ways Slot Features
Jaguar Super Ways is the slot debut of newcomer Bad Dingo, a Sydney, Australia-based game studio that is actually not really new to iGaming. Founded my NextGen alumni, they have been involved in the development of games from other providers before deciding to take the plunge with their own creation.
On this occasion, they collaborated with their fellow countrymen from ReelPlay, which allowed them to have the game added to Yggdrasil’s YG Masters platform and thus giving them a global exposure. And it is quite the shocker to be honest, boasting a potential for up to a staggering 387,420,489 bet ways. Not something we see every day and most certainly reason enough to take a closer look.
Every spin sequence starts on a rather mundane 5×3 reel set with the usual 243 ways. Hitting any winning combination will see the symbols being removed while the reminder drops towards the bottom and new ones tumble from the top into the empty spaces. Score another winner and the process is repeated. So far, so good and pretty normal for a cascading video slot.
It all changes when the Super Ways feature is triggered. That happens when a small Pawprint icon appears on any of the symbols in a winning combo. After the initial win is paid, a mega 3×3 Pawprint tile is placed on top of the marked symbol, removing all regular pay symbols underneath together with the symbols from the winning combination and/or opening additional reel positions if they are covered by the Pawprint. A maximum of 9 reels can be opened up with the mechanic, each with up to 9 symbols and up to that staggering 387,420,489 ways. Once fully opened, only symbols will be removed by the Pawprint.
A small display to the side of the game window will help you in keeping track of how many cascades are left and what the current number of active bet ways is. A single spin sequence can have a maximum of 15 cascades. It will instantly end after a potential win is paid on the final cascade. Darker carved stones serve as an indicator when the expansion reaches its limit on either side of the game window. Temple scatters are not removed by the Pawprint and while they drop towards the bottom after a winning combination is removed, they are kept in view throughout the game round.
Having three, four, five, six, seven or eight scatters in view by the time a spin sequence concludes will trigger 7, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20 Free Spins respectively, with the latter being the maximum on a triggering game round. The feature cannot be retriggered. The default game window changes to a 5×4 format with 1,024 ways to win, making it easier to trigger the Super Ways feature and open up more reel positions. Over 22,000 times your bet are possible in a single bonus round.
Final Verdict
Well, this was another surprise game announcement that came from nowhere. Bad Dingo and its partners surely did a good job in keeping it all under wraps. What they do present though with Jaguar Super Ways fully deserves to be seen. It is a totally unpredictable game that will keep you on the edge as you watch the reels gradually expanding in a spin sequence. While the maximum looks highly improbable or at least a very rare event, we did hit 140 million ways during our tests, clearly showing that it can go to levels never seen before on a video slot.
