Slot Vegas Megaquads is a composite video slot consisting of four separate 4×4 reel sets, each with 256 ways to win as default. Basically, four games in one. The set-up and number of ways will change up to an 8×8 size and an insane 16,777,216 ways during various features in the gameplay (more to that shortly). Wins are paid for three and four matching symbols on adjacent reels on each 4×4 grid, and that from left to right only, as well as for five to eight symbols when the grids are merged. We barely got accustomed to the newly introduced Megaclusters mechanic on Star Clusters, only for the folks at Big Time Gaming to present us right away with their next ambitious creation. And it is very different from anything we have seen so far, even on standard or Megaways quad slots. So different, that we will dedicate one paragraph to the workings of the Megaquads mechanic.

As a default, you are looking at four 4×4 slots, each with 256 ways to win. Each spins independently and wins are paid accordingly as they land on a reel set. In the base game, the mayhem starts when Rainbow Wilds land on two horizontally adjacent slots. Before any wins are paid, the two grids are combined to an 8×4 size with 65,536 ways. Plus, a regular wild is added to a random position on reels four and five. Any 5, 6, 7 and 8-of a kind diamonds or lucky 7s landing on this spin will increment the symbol multiplier by x2, x3, x4 and x5 respectively. It gets crazier during the free spins feature (more to that shortly). The reel sets will change back to the default before the next spin.

You might have baulked just like we did at the rather low symbol pays, peaking at a mere 2x your bet for the purple diamonds. One reason for that are the symbol multipliers for the premiums which are displayed to the left of the game screen (desktop). They start at x1 for each of the three lucky 7s and the purple diamond. Any four of a kind landing on a spin will increase the respective multiplier by x1, no limits. Plus, any extra multipliers from the Rainbow Wilds feature. Note, that in the base game each multiplier is only applied to winning combinations of the corresponding premium symbol.

Hitting four scatters anywhere across all four reel sets will trigger 6 Free Spins. Any further landing on the same spin will add +3 spins to the tally. Unlimited retriggers are available with the same combinations. Before the round starts, the two left and the two right 4×4 grids are combined vertically into 4-reel slots with 8 rows, giving each side 4,096 ways to win. The symbol multipliers from the base game are added into a common win multiplier, which will be applied to all wins for the duration of the feature. Final Verdict

Well, it seems like the people at Big Time Gaming are in innovation overdrive. Two new mechanics in two consecutive games is a testament to their sheer creativity and capabilities. The underlying maths working behind the scenes of the Megaquads is probably one of the most complex to have been used in a slot. Although some elements are borrowed from Kingmaker Megaways, doing the same times four is a whole different level. Kudos to the team for having the guts to take on such a challenge. One question remains though as to who came up with the name. Slot Vegas is surely not your ordinary title for a video slot. But then, the gameplay and entertainment value are more important than that.

Slot Vegas Megaquads will again divide the player community as it is another collection-based slot. Typically, we are over the moon when we trigger the main feature within the first few spins but that is not what you want on this game. You will need to accumulate decent symbol multipliers before going into the free spins as they will be added and applied to all wins from the round. Due to the very low line pays, a high win multiplier will be dearly needed to score those mega wins. Especially, because the maximum configuration with over 16 million ways, which will be the source of most monster hits, will not occur in each feature.
