Slot Details
Survivor Megaways is a cascading video slot with six reels, two to seven rows and up to 100,842 ways to win. Pays are awarded for two to six matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right only. Available on desktop or mobile, you can bet from 0.20 to 20 credits per spin. The game has high volatility with an RTP of 96.47%.
Fans of the TV Show will instantly recognize the link to the usual set of Survivor. A tropical island with palm trees and a sandy beach in the middle of an ocean or maybe better said in the middle of nowhere, mostly in the Pacific but also in the Indian and Atlantic ocean is the fitting background for this game. A tribal hut serves as the frame for the 3-tiered game window, each part housing an independently spinning reel set. The scenery changes to a night setting in the midst of the Tribal Council stage used in the show for voting out members of a tribe. The BTG-known reel noises are the main audio although it is garnered with parts of the original soundtrack.

BTG kept the best part of the pay symbol set, starting at the low end with the card royals from 9 through to A, awarding 0.4x to 0.6x your bet for a single six of a kind. The usual gems have been exchanged for tribal masks in green, blue, red and purple colours. Hit six across the reels to win 0.7x to 50x your stake.
The game has two wild symbols, a female member of the Red Tribe and a male member of the Blue Tribe, both appearing in the horizontal reel only and performing the usual substitutions duties. Urns similar to those used during voting on the TV show are the special symbol that will increase the wild multipliers while the Survivor logo acts as the scatter.
Survivor Megaways Slot Features
It is always a suspenseful time when we wait for news to emerge from the Australian-based game studio as they show time and again that creativity knows no bounds when it comes to the Megaways engine. The versatility allows slot designers virtually unlimited possibilities on how to put the elements together into an exhilarating game.
On Survivor Megaways, we have yet another new setting that sees the horizontal extra reel moving into the centre, splitting the game grid into two equal halves, each in a 6×3 format. At the core is still the cascading reel mechanic where at the start of a spin sequence a random number of 1 to 3 symbols drop onto every reel on each of the two sets while the extra reel spins five symbols into view on top of reels 2 to 6. Together, this will create anything from 486 to 100,842 ways to win. As usual, symbols from a winning combo will explode to make room for new ones to drop into place, setting off a chain reaction where you can win multiple times within a single spin.
The top half of the game grid is assigned to the Red Tribe while the lower part goes to the Blue Tribe. Each has its own wild shown on the left of the reels, a female contestant for red and a male for blue. They appear in the horizontal extra reel only, each starting with an x1 win multiplier.
Urns and increased wild multipliers
Urns similar to those used during voting in the TV show can land on any of the two main reel sets and when they do they will increase the win multiplier of the respective tribe member. Those landing at the top will increase that of the female wild while those at the bottom will increase the male wild multiplier. The added multiplier is equal to the size of the urn when it lands. A single, double or triple-row symbol will add x1, x2 and x3 to the respective wild multiplier. Urns can land more than once within a spin sequence, however, any active multipliers will be reset to x1 once a sequence concludes in the base game.
In the example above we have two urns in the top half on reels five and six, one 2-symbols high and a single symbol, adding a total of x3 to the default multiplier for an x4 wild multiplier. Similarly, at the bottom we have one 2-symbol high urn on reel four, increasing the default multiplier by x2. Only wins where the wilds are part of the combo will be multiplied and more than one will see the respective values being multiplied by each other, potentially leading to insane wild multipliers. Any used wilds will explode together with the other symbols in the winning combo and new symbols will move into place.
Survivor Megaways Free Spins feature
Having three scatters in view at the end of a spin sequence will trigger 15 Free Spins, as well as +5 for each additional scatter. During the feature three scatters will retrigger 5 free spins, plus another +5 for any further scatter on the same free spin. All active wild multipliers are transferred to the round, however, the kicker is that they will not reset until the end of the feature. Instead, they will keep growing every time an urn lands on the reels. Once high enough, landing both wilds in a winning combo on a free spin will lead almost guaranteed to a mega win. Going by our experience with Megaways games, we estimate that over 10,000 times your bet are possible in a single bonus feature, although a purported figure of 44,000x is making the rounds.
Final Verdict
Well, that’s it! Nothing super revolutionary this time from Big Time Gaming, but certainly exhilarating and entertaining nonetheless. It is quite volatile due to the potential for high wild multipliers in the base game and free spins but the latter should trigger more often as only three scatters are needed instead of the usual four. Overall, a continued evolution from their original Megaways game Bonanza that will always attract us for a few spins after its release in mid-April 2020, although we expect another exclusive pre-release at a selected online casino in late March 2020.
