Review
Play with Egyptian gods on the slot from Blueprint Gaming. Eye of Horus Megaways is a modern take on what is probably one of the biggest classics in online and land-based gaming. After years of entertaining punters on casino floors, it wasn’t until 2016 for it to appear in online casino lobbies. The fanbase has grown exponentially since then, which surely caught the attention of the creative team at Blueprint Gaming when they searched their parent company’s portfolio for a suitable candidate that could be deemed worthy of a Megaways makeover.
Originally created by Australian developer Reel Time Gaming (not to be confused with Real Time Gaming), it was Blueprint’s sister company Merkur Gaming who brought the game to casino floors. It has received now a renewed booster with the Megaways game engine featuring up to 15,625 ways to win, expanding wilds and a free spins round with symbol upgrades that can lead to wins of up to 10,000 times your bet.

Slot Details
Eye of Horus Megaways is a video slot with six reels, up to five rows and up to 15,625 ways to win. Pays are awarded for three to five matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can delve into Egyptian mythology on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 10 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with a strong trend towards high variance and a below-average RTP of 95.02%.
Blueprint made a wise decision to stay with the old graphics as that was part of the attraction of the original. While rather rudimentary, they conveyed a certain charm and authenticity of the Egyptian theme. Obviously, Blueprint updated them to make them look more radiant and modern. The background is though still a pyramid chamber with giant columns flanking the game window. Fans of Merkur/Blueprint games will be pleased to hear the same audio as on the original.
The pay symbols are also unchanged, starting at the low end with the card royals from J through to A. They are complemented by Egyptian flower sticks, Ankh crosses, blue scarabs, Horus falcon, Anubis and the Eye of Horus. Pays for a single six of a kind range from 0.6x to 20x your bet.
Horus depicted as a falcon-headed man is the wild symbol, appearing on reels two to five only and substituting for all regular pay symbols. It will expand when it lands only partially view on a spin and cover the entire reel. A temple entrance acts as the scatter.
Eye of Horus Megaways Slot Features
Very much like the original, there is only one real feature on the Megaways version. Hitting three to six temple scatters will trigger 12 free spins which cannot be retriggered as such but landing one, two or three Horus wilds will award +1, +3 and +5 free spins respectively, no limits. The game will also pay a coin win of 2x to 100x your total bet for three to six scatters.
If you played the original Eye of Horus slot then you will know what reel mechanic is in play during the free spins. For all others, keep an eye on the Horus wild as it is the key to scoring mega wins in the bonus round.. On top of expanding like in the base game, the eye on the head of Horus will light up and progressively upgrade the premiums to the next higher symbol on the paytable, starting from the Egyptian flower sticks.
A display with all six premium symbols will appear on top of the game window to show the progress. Landing a Horus wild five times during the feature will leave you with only card royals and the top-paying Eye of Horus symbols on the reels.
Final Verdict
Eye of Horus Megaways has elevated the original by a few levels, I guess, you could also call it Eye of Horus on steroids. Obviously, the sheer amount of win ways led to a lowering of the payouts for a winning combination but that is easily compensated by the massive increase from 10 lines to 15,625 ways. Diehard fans might still prefer the original version but odds are high that they will convert rather rapidly.
