Review
Get ready to explore the mysterious Aztec world on the slot from Blueprint Gaming. And yes, I can hear you asking – again a Megaways slot? – as there seem to be a new one released every week. Blueprint certainly makes heavy use of the license it signed from Big Time Gaming but also shows that there are endless possibilities to include new features, interesting pay mechanics and surprising twists to each game.
Temple of Treasure Megaways comes with mystery symbols, reactive wins, a Temple Bonus Bet feature buy option and a bonus round with four choices of free spins with a guaranteed number of ways to win and unlimited multiplier. Plus, we should not forget to mention the win potential which peaks at 10,000 times your stake on this slot.
Slot Details
Temple of Treasure Megaways is a video slot with six reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. The number of ways from 324 to the maximum is randomly determined for every spin by selecting between two and seven pay symbols for reels one and six as well as two to six pay symbols for reels two to five. Additionally, the game has an extra reel at the top of the game window with four positions, extending from reel two to five, where more symbols appear on every spin.
Stake sizes range from 0.10 to 10.00 credits. The RTP of this high variance game is set at 96.46% – 97.01%, depending on which free spins option players are taking and whether they are using the Temple Bonus Bet feature. Autoplay will let you choose 10 to 100 consecutive spins without interruption.
Graphics and Visuals
The game window is flanked by carved stone columns and set in the midst of a lush jungle scene with the Aztec temple being visible in the background when pay symbols explode on a winning spin. Nothing overly exciting on the graphics but not too shabby either, rather the normal standard we know from this developer. Tribal chants with drum sounds are the main audio on the slot, interrupted by distinct reel and win count noises. It turns into a livelier tune in the bonus round.
Pay Symbols
Nothing unusual on the pay symbols either. At the low end are the commonly used card royals from 9 to A, complemented on the high level by tribal gold jewellery – a necklace, an armband and a brooch. The top paying symbol is an Aztec mask. Pays for a single six of a kind range from 1x to 50x your stake. The wild symbol appears on the top reel only and is tribal drum marked with the word ‘Wild’, substituting for all symbols except scatters. A golden pentagram-like icon is the mystery symbol. Scatters are an icon with an Aztec temple marked by the word ‘Bonus’.
Extra Reel and Reactive Wins
Two mechanics stand out on Megaways slots – the extra reel on top of the game window and the reactive wins. At the start of every spin, symbols drop from the top onto the six reels based on the random selection of reel positions. In addition, the extra reel at the top of the game window spins four symbols into view abeam reels two to five adding an extra symbol position to those reels. A display at the top shows the total amount of active ways to win for the spin.
Wins are paid for adjacent symbols from left to right. The symbols from a winning combination are part of a reaction which will see them explode to make room for new symbols to cascade into place. This will continue as long as a new winning combination occurs after a reaction. Wins are accumulated from all cascades and paid before the next spin starts.
Mystery Symbol Pays
Golden pentagram-like symbols can appear on all reels on any spin in the base game and free spins. They will reveal one common symbol once the reels have stopped, including the top paying symbol. However, they cannot contain wild or scatter symbols.
The Temple Bonus Bet
This feature has become a popular addition to online slots, maybe because we are becoming increasingly impatient or are experiencing a lack of free time to wait for an organic bonus trigger. Blueprint included the feature buy option as well on this game at a cost of 100 times your bet. Simply hit the Temple Bonus Bet button before a spin starts and the game will give you the same four options as an organic feature trigger.
The Temple of Treasure Megaways Free Spins
Hit four scatters on a spin to trigger 12 free spins. Any extra scatter landing on the triggering spin will award five additional free spins. The game leads to a second screen with four options for the free spins, each with different volatility.
- High Volatility: 5 free spins with an x1 starting multiplier and guaranteed minimum 10,000 ways to win on every free spin
- Medium Volatility: 10 free spins with an x1 starting multiplier and guaranteed minimum 2,304 ways to win on every free spin
- Lowest Volatility: 15 free spins with an x1 starting multiplier and guaranteed minimum 324 ways to win on every free spin
- Mystery Choice: the game will present you with three panels for each, the number of free spins and minimum ways to win. You can make one pick from each row. Be lucky and get 15 free spins with minimum 10,000 ways or unlucky when you uncover only five free spins with minimum 324 ways to win.
After selecting one option, the game will start the bonus round with the selected amount of free spins and an x1 multiplier. During the feature, scatters appear in the horizontal reel only. Three or four on a spin will award +5 and +10 free spins respectively. The main attraction though in the free spins is the unlimited multiplier. It will increase by x1 after every winning reaction. Plus, the mystery symbol can appear on any reel during the free spins.
Final Verdict
I said already a few times that there is a good chance for oversaturation with Megaways slots. By the end of 2018, Big Time Gaming licensed the engine to minimum six other game studios, which means we will see even more released in the near future. How many titles can the market support though, 100 or 1,000? There will be a limit at some point, the question is only when not if. Still, Blueprint manages to add to each Megaways slot a new or surprising twist that will distinguish it from the other titles in its portfolio. On Temple of Treasure, it is the choice of four bonus rounds with varying guaranteed ways to win.
