Review
Join the maniacal Joker in his own underground casino on the slot from GiG Games. The Dark Joker built his own multi-level slot from spare parts found in a trash heap, giving it a range of features that can lead to wins of up to 7,000 coins or in real money 700x your bet. There are random Mystery Prizes and a Crazy Joker mode where you can gamble with your base game winnings to score a bigger win.
Slot Details
Dark Joker is a video slot in a 3×3 format with five fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three matching symbols on a line from left to right only. Descend to the underground casino on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game is highly volatile just like its dark creator and has an RTP range of 72.10% to 96.01%, depending on the strategy you will use when entering the Crazy Joker mode.
Visually, the slot is taking you deep into underground catacombs sparsely lit with makeshift spotlights. Build from various parts with power supply cables attached, the game window is uncovered in the base game and will get a cover with separate controls when you enter the Crazy Joker mode. A mechanical soundtrack accompanies the usual reel noises while the joker’s maniacal laugh will taunt you occasionally.

The paytable is somewhat convoluted as it comes with different parts for the base game and Crazy Joker mode. To make it even more confusing, the developers added more symbols for the latter. In both, the Joker acts as the mystery symbol (more to that later).
In the base game, there are five regular symbols. They are in ascending order cherries, lemons, melons, bells and 7s, awarding 2x to 700x your bet when three land on a pay line.
There are seven regular symbols on the reels during the Crazy Joker mode – cherries, oranges, lemons, plums, melons, bells and 7s. The potential wins are based on betting minimum 20, 40, 100 or 200 coins of a win from the main game (in real money 2x, 4x, 10x or 20x your default bet) and range from 10x your stake for three cherries on a line up to 700x your stake for three 7s.
Dark Joker Slot Features
The Joker is a mystery symbol that can appear on all reels in both modes. In the base game, he will award a mystery prize from 2x to 700x your bet when you land a full pay line while in the Crazy Joker mode it plays out slightly different. Should you bet 100 coins, then you will need to land a single Joker symbol in the middle position of the centre reel. Betting 200 coins, the Joker symbol appearing on any reel will award a mystery prize, up to three in total and not exceeding 700x your bet.
More action will come from the Crazy Joker mode. It will activate the soon you score a win in the base game. A cover with separate controls will be placed on top of the reels with the winning amount added to the Joker Meter on top of the game window. You have now the possibility to gamble your winnings from the base game with 20, 40, 100 or 200 coins per spin. The wins for a three of kind are higher, starting at 10x your bet and peaking again at the ominous 700x your bet. You can collect any winnings before the start of every Crazy Joker spin and return to the base game. It will automatically do so when your Joker Meter balance reaches zero.
And here comes the part that makes no sense whatsoever as it requires constant strategizing to achieve the full RTP of 96.01%. All other times you will be playing in an RTP range from 72.10% to the full number. The only way to benefit from the maximum RTP is to apply some strategic play during the Crazy Joker mode:
- Always collect in Crazy Joker mode when the Joker Meter balance falls below 200 coins
- Always bet the maximum 200 coins
- Always collect when the Joker Meter Balance reaches or exceeds 1,500 coins
Go that? I simply do not understand why the creators thought that complicating the gameplay was a good idea. While experienced players might make use of the best strategy, recreational punters and newbies hardly ever read the game rules to even know that a strategy must be used to achieve the maximum RTP.
Final Verdict
“We are not game makers, we are game changers.” – The GiG slogan indeed applies to their creations, but not necessarily in a positive way. While their Book of Souls indicated there might be something exciting in the making, the following creations were forgotten the soon they were released. It says a lot about the popularity of a game when it drops within days from the front page of the GiG owned casinos, let alone being prevalent at outside brands.
Dark Joker might have an enticing, maybe even slightly morbid theme that will have some punters getting goosebumps, but it can’t hide the fact that it is simply a highly volatile 5-liner with a small extra feature that limits any potential wins to a very low 700x bet. No HV-nerd will start chasing that kind of mediocre win with a higher risk of losing his or her balance. If there is by any chance some interest left, then the convoluted gameplay will most probably take care of any remaining urge to even load the slot.
