Join the madcap canines from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. Open the game info upon loading to be sure of playing the best version for your pocket.
Pug Life is set in the household of a family pet, Pugly, who plays with his friends indoors in the base game and takes a trip to the kitchen for the ‘Treat Yo’self’ Bonus and outside in the garden for each round of ‘The Dog’s Den. Features like the food bowl multipliers are themed around Pugly’s life while his cohorts dash across the screen in cute animations. Pug Life comes across as a friendly cartoon caper.
The pay symbols start at the low end with 10, J, Q, K and A, awarding from 1x to 2x your bet for five on a pay line. Animal character symbols follow of a mouse, bird, cat, Puglys canine girlfriend and Pugly follow, and five-of-a-kind awards from 4x to 10x your stake.
Treat bowls act as wilds with multipliers that substitute all other symbols except for the bonus scatter and toaster symbol found in The Dog’s Den bonus. Treat bowls also trigger the Treat Yo’self bonus game for landing three or more. Hit five treat bowls along a pay line to win 10x your bet. Lastly, a dog kennel appears as the Dawg’s Den scatter that awards The Dog’s Den bonus game for landing three or more on a spin.

Pug Life Slot Features
Hacksaw Gaming has recently stepped up its game releases and is now adding medium-high volatility games to its range, which should broaden the developer’s appeal. Break Bones was self-titled as the first lower volatility release than the high ratings the studio is best known and loved for, although others have seen medium-high volatility scores. As volatility is a provider-led rating and not a universal standard, let’s see just how friendly Pug Life is by comparison.
Your basic spin will see you matching three or more symbols on consecutive reels along pay lines for a win. Treat bowls represent revealing wild symbols that unveil a win multiplier upon landing. There are three different types of treat bowls, each with its own multiplier range:
- Biscuit Treat Bowl: x2, x3 and x4 win multipliers.
- Bone Treat Bowl: x5, x10, x15 and x20 win multipliers.
- Steak Treat Bowl: x25, x50, x75, x100, x150 and x200 win multipliers.
If more than one treat bowl features in a pay line win, values are added together before being applied to the win, e.g. x10 and x50 treat bowls will multiply a win by x60. Land three or more treat bowls on a spin to trigger the Treat Yo’self Bonus. The round starts with five free spins and by locking each triggering treat bowl in place for the bonus duration. On every spin, treat bowl multipliers are randomised according to each range, and each further treat bowl that lands will be locked with the rest and grant an extra free spin.
Hit three or more Dawg’s Den scatters to trigger The Dog’s Den bonus game. Each scatter that lands awards three or four spins. In this bonus, no win is awarded until the end of the round. Instead, each win and wild multiplier is collected and counted in meters above the reels, displayed as Total Win X Total Multiplier. A special toaster symbol can appear on reels 4 and 5 and stick in place, acting as a wild symbol.
On every remaining spin, the toaster will reveal an x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50 or x100 multiplier addition to the multiplier total or dollar signs which use one of the following bet multipliers to add to the win total: 0.1x, 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 100x. An extra spin will be awarded for each Dawg’s Den scatter that lands during the bonus, and at the end of the feature, the total win is multiplied by the total win multiplier and paid.
Where available, Pug Life comes with a Bonus Buy feature for direct entry to bonus games or enhanced spins. You can purchase one of four Bonus Buy options for a fixed amount as detailed below:
- Treats Featurespins | High Volatility | 2x Bet: With Treats Featurespins enabled, a treat symbol is guaranteed on every spin.
- Bonus Featurespins | High Volatility | 3x Bet: Enable Bonus Featurespins for a 5x higher chance of triggering a bonus game.
- Treat Yo’self | Medium Volatility | 100x Bet: Five Free Spins with all treats turning sticky
- The Dawg’s Den | Medium Volatility | 200x Bet: Spin lands minimum three scatters for 9 or more Free Spins.
Final Verdict
You might think a lower volatility rating means a friendlier base game, but Hacksaw has reserved the change for bonus rounds on Pug Life, as with other recent titles from the now-famous studio. Coupled with a current trend for lower max wins, notably from 10,000x or more down to around 7,000x your bet, it is hard to see any statistical benefit for med-high volatility seekers who the prospect might attract, nor for avid Hacksaw fans.
Only extended play over time will reveal the true nature of the switch, but in volatility terms, Pug Life did not feel as different as you may expect from other Hacksaw titles during GMBLRS’s limited demo play. What has changed is the artistic direction; the artwork and design are less abstract, the music is applied in a more traditional fashion, and the general feel is not as individually unique as the developer’s previous releases. Pug Life is a neatly crafted slot overall, but not instantly recognisable as a Hacksaw Gaming creation.
