Get in on the police chase on the slot from Inspired Gaming. Cops ‘N’ Robbers Megaways is bringing back the immensely popular original from Greentube (Novomatic) that dates back to 2013 and combines it with the equally popular game engine from Big Time Gaming. The volatile chase across six dynamic reels comes with wild substitutions, cascading symbols, reactive wins, two random modifiers and a choice of two bonus features that can lead to wins of up to 12,500 times your bet or 250,000 credits, whichever is reached first.

Slot Details

Cops ‘N’ Robbers Megaways is a cascading video slot with six dynamic reels, 2 to 7 rows and 324 to 117,649 ways to win (more to that shortly). Pays are awarded for two to six matching symbols landing on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can join the police chase on desktop, mobile or tablet from 0.20 to 20 credits per spin. The game has high volatility with an RTP rang of 95.19% to 95.50% based on which of the two bonus features is chosen.

No surprises when it comes to the visuals expect the significantly larger game window to house the Megaways reels. The London skyline seen from the shores of the river Thames serves as the backdrop while the protagonists together with police cars, cash bundles and loot bags populate the reels. All to a rather simple but quirky soundtrack.

The pay symbols start at the low end with card royals from 10 through to A, awarding 0.80x to 1.75x your bet for a single six of a kind. They are followed by a police car, cash bundles, cash loot bags, the cop and the slot logo. Hit six across the reels to win 1.75x to 50x your stake. Bonzo is the wild dog, appearing in the horizontal tracker in the base game and on the main reels in the free spins while performing the usual substitution duties. The robber himself acts as the bonus scatters and lastly, dynamite bundles represent the mystery symbol.

Cops ‘N’ Robbers Megaways Slot Features

Multiple game providers have had a dip into the Cops ‘N’ Robbers franchise, including Greentube, Mazooma, Pariplay and Play’n GO. The honour to give it the Megaways treatment fell to Inspired Gaming since they are the only studio from the previously named that actually has a licence from Big Time Gaming. Fear not, as it is jampacked with modifiers and features, so, let’s take a closer look.

Megaways games have been around for some time now with most players being familiar with the reel and pay mechanics, but just in case you never tried one, here’s a rundown. At the start of a spin sequence, symbols cascade on to the reels according to the random selection of ways, ranging from 324 to 117,649. The engine allows anything from 2 to 7 symbols on reels one and six as well as 1 to 6 symbols on reels two to five. In addition, you have a horizontal tracker above the centre reels where more symbols appear on every spin.

Wins are paid for two to six matching symbols landing on adjacent reels from left to right. All symbols in a combo will explode while any remaining symbols will drop towards the bottom before new ones cascade into the empty spaces, potentially starting a chain of reactive wins. The process keeps going as long as more wins occur after a cascade. All pays are accumulated and credited once a spin sequence ends.

Cops 'N' Robbers Megaways Mystery Symbols

The Mystery Symbols are meanwhile a standard addition to the list of modifiers on Megaways slots, including for this one. The police light in the top right corner might turn on at any time in the base game and free spins and will trigger the Blue Reels if it turns, well, blue. A random number of up to 100 dynamite bundles will be added to the reel strips for the current spin, including on the horizontal tracker. Once the reels come to a stop, all in view will explode and reveal a common pay symbol except scatters or wilds.

Cops 'N' Robbers Megaways Red Reels Feature

The police light can also turn red when it comes on, again in the base game and free spins, and will trigger then the Red Reels feature with a progressively increasing number of Megaways on consecutive spins until it reaches the maximum 117,649 ways, although the spins are not free.

Watch out for the traffic light in the bottom right corner. Bert, the robber, will appear on reel one and advance by one reel every time the crossing light turns green with the cop in pursuit. If Bert makes it to the rightmost reel before the feature ends, extra scatters are added for the current spin to guarantee a bonus game trigger.

The feature will start with a low number of Megaways and increase them progressively on the following spins. Changing stakes is possible but the feature will not be carried over. Instead, it will be stored until you return to the same stake that triggered it. Each spin is a single paid game round with the feature ending and the cop catching Bert when:

  • Maximum 117,649 ways are reached
  • An accumulative win equal to or greater than 5x bet occurs in a single spin sequence
  • The bonus game is triggered by landing at least 3 scatters on a spin

Hitting three or more Bert scatters anywhere on the reels, either organically or via the Red Reels feature, will trigger the Bonus Game with two choices – The Chase and Free Spins. The game will lead to a new screen allowing you to pick one of the features on each occasion.

Cops N Robbers Megaways - The Chase Bonus

The Chase is a board-style bonus game with red dice throws advancing Bert by 1 – 6 steps around the track and the cop in pursuit by 1-6 steps via blue dice throws. The aim is to get around the track without the cop catching up. To give Bert a head start, you will get a Cope Snooze Count – three for a 3-scatter trigger and one extra for any further scatter. The count reduces by one after each red dice throw, giving the robber a number of risk-free moves.

Once the snooze count reaches zero, the cop will start to chase the robber by a number of steps determined by a throw of the blue dice after each red dice throw. Each square where Bert stops will award a random coin win as indicated which will be added to the total win display at the top. Landing on the x2 multiplier square in the bottom left corner will multiply the total win up to that moment.

Getting caught by the cop will see the robber entering the I.D. Parade in the centre of the board game. Bert and two other characters are lined up and a spotlight will randomly stop on one of the three protagonists.

  • Bert: You go to jail and the bonus game ends. The accumulated win is paid.
  • Vic: Increases the coin wins on the squares and returns you to the last position to carry on. Be lucky and the cop may snooze first upon your return.
  • Sid: An extra coin win is awarded and you return to the last position to continue the chase. Again, the cop might snooze one or more throws of the red dice.
Cops N Robbers Megaways Free Spins

The second choice for bonus games is the Free Spins feature. Three scatters will get you 8 Free Spins with each further adding +2 to the tally, up to a maximum of 78. Before the start of the feature, you will be offered a Pie Gamble Wheel to risk your won free spins with a chance to increase the number up to 25. Most steps are all or nothing, hence, some caution is recommended. You can collect the current number of free spins and start the feature at any time.

The round is played with both modifiers – Red and Blue Reels – potentially triggering at any time as well as the usual progressive win multiplier, starting at x1 and increasing by x1 after every winning cascade. Plus, any Bert scatter appearing on the horizontal reel will award +2 free spins. And there is one more modifier that could have quite an impact on your winnings.

Bonzo, the wild dog, is seen snoozing next to the horizontal reel. He can wake up at any time and will turn then into a walking wild, entering the horizontal reel on the right and moving by one step at a time until he disappears to the left. Any time he also lands below on the same main reel, all positions on the respective reel will turn into wilds. They are not sticky and will disappear if they were part of a winning combination.

Last but not least, should your balance drop below the current bet size but remains higher than zero, then the game will automatically offer you the Spin Chance. It gives you one shot at winning one more spin at the current bet size. A pie chart indicates your odds to win the gamble. Click on PLAY to start the gamble and the marker will start spinning. It will be a winner if the marker ends in the green zone. You can always click on NO to return back to the game screen with the remaining balance.

Final Verdict

Cops ‘N’ Robbers Megaways is highly playable slot with plenty of police chases, modifiers, features and gamble options. Inspired Gaming shines again with a Megaways slot that stands out from the rest. As for the win potential, that is capped at 250,000 credits. At max bet, it converts to 12,500x stake.
