Review
Yeehaw! Saddle your bronco and ride into the sunset on the slot from iSoftBet. Western Gold Megaways is taking you on a Wild West adventure across six reels with cascading symbols, reactive wins, wild substitutions and a Cash Respins bonus game that can lead to wins of up to 12,000 times your bet.
Update 3rd September 2020: The slot is exclusively available at casinos in the Betsson Group including Guts Casino, Rizk Casino, Betsson, Casino Euro and Thrills. It will go global in mid-September 2020.
Slot Details
Western Gold Megaways is a cascading video slot with six reels, up to seven rows and 64 to 117,649 ways to win. Pays are awarded for two to six matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can ride into the Wild West on desktop and mobile from 0.20 to 20 credits per spin. The game has medium to high volatility with an RTP of 95.98%. Using the Feature Buy increases the RTP to a rather generous 97%.
Thanks to the licensed Megaways engine, no two spins are the same as the number of ways to win is randomly determined at the start of every spin sequence. The game will randomly select between two and seven pay symbols for each reel, creating anything from 64 to 117,649 win ways. Any win will set off a chain reaction, shattering all winning symbols before new ones tumble into the empty spaces and potentially create more winning combos. The process continues as long as a win occurs after a cascade. All wins are accumulated and paid once a spin sequence ends.
Loading the game will see you enter the main road of a typical Wild West town with buildings on either side of the game window. The reels are held on a brick house facade, possibly the bank. After all, you are about to go on a heist for big wins. Various Wild West insignia populate the reels while a dramatic soundtrack with gunshots and explosions provides the fitting audio.
The pay symbols start at the low end with the usual card royals from 9 through to A, awarding 0.5x to 1.5x your bet for a single six of a kind. They are followed by cowboy boot spurs, whiskey flasks, stetsons and colts at the high level. Hit six across the reels to win 2x to 25x your stake. The wild symbol appears on reels two to five only and substitutes for all regular pay symbols. A golden sheriff star acts as the bonus scatter.
Western Gold Megaways Slot Features
Slot connoisseurs will instantly recognize the similarities to Aztec Gold Megaways. Even the name is not much different from iSoftBet’s debut Megaways game. However, this creation is a toned-down version of the original with slightly lower volatility and rather substantial smaller win potential at just 12,000x instead of 19,200x bet.
There is again just one bonus feature included in the gameplay that however can pack quite a punch. While you can hit sizeable wins in the base game due to the sheer amount of possible bet ways, the main potential for mega wins is clearly in the Western Gold Cash Respin feature. You will need a minimum of five sheriff star scatters in view at the end of the spin sequence to trigger the bonus game. Watch out for the random modifier, which can activate on any spin in the base game to add a random number of additional scatters to the reels or guarantee a spin with maximum 117,649 Megaways, both increasing your chances to trigger the bonus game.
Once in, you will get three Respins to start your reel heist. The number Megaways and all triggering scatters will be locked for the duration of the feature. Any further scatters landing will turn sticky too and reset the Respin counter to three. Each scatter will display a coin win or one of the three fixed jackpots – Mini at 10x, Major at 25x and Mega at 50x your total bet – substantially lower compared to Aztec Gold Megaways.
Filling a reel with sticky scatters will activate a multiplier that will be applied to all wins from that reel. The multipliers are based on how many symbol positions are on the respective reel. Possible choices are x2, x3, x4, x5, x6 or x7. Once you run out of respins or have filled the entire screen with sticky scatters, all prizes will be multiplied where applicable and added together before being paid in one amount.
The Feature Buy button will let you cut through the chase and proceed straight into the bonus round (restricted in some jurisdictions). It will cost you a one-time amount of 50x your base bet to see the next spin delivering minimum five scatters to the reels and triggering the Western Gold Cash Respins. The round is played in the same fashion as the standard bonus feature.
Final Verdict
Some may ask what the point is to release a virtual copy of an existing game. While it indeed does not make sense most of the times, it is different on this occasion. iSoftBet recreated the original Aztez Gold Megaways with a less volatile profile which will appeal better to recreational players who are not always pinned on scoring that very rare maximum win. But even hardcore gamblers should like Western Gold Megaways as it comes with stunning visuals, superb audio and a still respectable win potential of up to 12,000 times bet.
