Reel Talent is a creation by JustForTheWin, a small but innovative Swedish game studio who mainly produces slots for Microgaming’s Quickfire platform. Their latest game is a video slot with five reels, three rows, and 20 fixed pay lines. The excitement on the stage is heightened with wild substitutions, symbol storage, and three different respin options. The maximum win in a single spin tops 1,000 times the stake but can be higher for an entire spin sequence that includes respins.

Bet sizes range from 0.10 to 100 credits. Do not be fooled though by the lack of other features or multipliers as the slot is trending towards high volatility, although a generous RTP of 96.03% will help to avoid a quick bust. The slot is designed in HTML5 format, making it available for play on mobile and desktop devices.

As expected, the visuals on Reel Talent evolve around the stage where the contestants are trying to give their best performance. A symbol storage on the left on the game window is part of a new pay mechanic and will play a large role to trigger the main feature on Reel Talent. The reels are populated by cartoon-like performers together with their main props.  A rather relaxing soundtrack is changing into a dramatic crescendo on winning and teaser spins.

Reel Talent has nine regular pay symbols and one wild symbol. The low end consists of four artist props such as playing cards, a guitar, a torch, and a microphone. These are followed by the four performers – a rabbit doing magic tricks with a set of cards, a dog as a guitar virtuoso, a flame-throwing crocodile and a singing lion. The slot logo is the top paying symbol. The wild symbol is a tile with the word itself. There are no scatter or bonus symbols on this slot as the feature is triggered by collecting consecutive wins.

The Symbol Storage Feature

A storage display is visible on the left of the game window that will initiate the main feature on Reel Talent. The aim is to score three wins to fill up the storage and trigger one of three Superspins. When a win is scored on one or more pay lines, the winning symbol for each line is added to the Symbol Storage. A respin is awarded if there are still empty positions in the storage. The respins end when there are no empty positions left or no win is landing on a respin. Wins are accumulated during a spin sequence and paid in one amount once it ends.

Collecting three symbols in a spin sequence in the storage will award one Superspin, during which only the collected symbols are present on the reels. The game has three options with increasing win potential for the bonus feature:

• Stage 1 – Show Time is awarded when three different symbols are in the Symbol Storage with only the three symbols present on the reels during the Superspin.
• Stage 2 – Big Stage is awarded with just the two collected symbols on the reels in the Superspin
• Stage 3 – Solo Performance has only the single collected symbol on the reels in the Superspin

Obviously, Stage 3 is the most lucrative option as it will lead to a full screen of the collected symbol. Wins for a full screen range from 70x for lowest symbol and 1,000x the stake for the top symbol. All wins, including those from the respins leading to the triggering of the Superspin are accumulated and paid at the end of the feature.

Final Verdict

Are we talented enough to join the four prodigies on the reels of the creation from JustForTheWin? Well, not really as we are just simple slotting enthusiasts who do not judge a book by its cover. No doubt, the game is well-designed with decent animations, but we could not warm up to cartoon-like characters as it could appeal to the younger generation who is not yet of legal age to play real money slots.

It also seemed rather hard to trigger the Superspin with three different symbols, let alone achieving the feat with just one symbol. The game maths seems awfully skewed towards failing numerous times to fill up the storage and a Superspin with three different symbols often ends with no win. But it can produce some mega wins once it runs hot and shows off its reel talent to the full extent.
