Konami might not be a house-hold name, but they are indeed the fourth-largest video game producer in Japan. The foundation of the company goes back to 1969, when Kagamasa Kouzuki set-up a repair business and jukebox rental in Osaka, Japan. The name Konami is derived from the three surnames of the founders – Kagamasa Kouzuki, Yoshinobu Nakama and Tatuso Miyasako. As early as 1973 when video games were still in its infancy years, they started producing arcade games with interactive consoles.
The worldwide expansion began in 1979 when they started shipping their creations to the USA and Australia. Offices in Nevada, California and Sydney followed soon and in 2005 the company went on to move the headquarters to the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas. In between, they entered the market for computer games which started becoming popular in the early 1980s. More bases and office locations followed with further subsidiaries in the UK and Germany.
However, it wasn’t until 1999 that Konami began to show interest in the gaming industry. After their listing on the London Stock Exchange in 2000, they began producing their first card games and shortly after they entered the largest gambling market by launching their creations in the USA. Today, Konami are is not just developing gaming, leisure, amusement and gambling products. They also run various chains of swimming, gymnastics and fitness clubs.
After their move to Las Vegas in 2005, Konami focused a good part of their activity towards the real-money gaming industry. They develop and supply cabinets to all sorts of locations in Nevada and beyond such as bars, pubs, motorway stations and bookmakers. Parallel to that, they increased their activity in the iGaming market and today, many of their titles found at land based gambling locations can now be played at a large range of online casinos, including Casumo and Videoslots.
Many of their games are obviously Asian themed but they also ventured out to include other themes into their games. Some of their most prominent slots that can be found at online and land based casinos are Lotus Charm, Imperial Wealth, Bullion Factory, African Diamond, Dragon Charm and Jumpin’ Jalapeños.
