World leading gaming software provider Microgaming is probably the true pioneer in online gaming. Founded in the early nineties, they went on to launch what is known to be the first ever full online casino, The Gaming Club, which to this day still operates using Microgaming software. The Isle of Man-based company is today one of the most recognized brands in the global gaming community and one of the few big players in the market.
There seemed to be no stopping them in the first decade as online gaming turned into a multi-billion industry. However, the closure of the US market in 2006 due to passing of new online gambling laws, represented their first and probably only big stumbling block as they were heavily focused on the US. In between, they launched the first mobile gaming platform in 2004 and some of their most epic games such as Thunderstruck, Loaded and Ladies Night. Today, their catalogue exceeds 600 video slots, classic slots, table games, video poker and live casino tables.
While their games were initially only available via a download client, they have since advanced and released them in Flash versions and since 2014 in HTML5 format. However, many gaming enthusiasts insist to this day that the Viper download client provides the most superior gaming experience as the game software is stored on the user PC and only the bet requests are being send to the casinos and providers. This lets the games run smoother at a higher speed, plus the graphics can be a lot more elaborate since there is no loading time needed as on browser based games. Nevertheless, the HTML5 standard is a big improvement for instant games as they can be accessed and played across all devices and on all OS platforms.
Legendary status has been given to Microgaming’s progressive jackpot network, with slots like Mega Moolah and Major Millions paying out nearly $1 Billion in progressive wins in less than one decade since they were launched in 2008. Hereby, the games from all operators are interconnected with a share of each bet going to the progressive jackpots. The latest record setting win was in September 2018 when a player won an unbelievable €18,7 Million with a mere €0.75 bet on Mega Moolah.
Although some of their games seem maybe a little outdated, Microgaming still has a large number of blockbuster slots. Some of the best examples are Thunderstruck II, Immortal Romance, Avalon II and Dragonz. Not to forget the branded slots such as Jurassic World, Games of Thrones and Playboy Gold.
