Review
Expecting to see a sequel to the popular Netent classic Egg-O-Matic or the Christmas-themed Jingle Spin, I was very surprised to find out that Cash-O-Matic is a completely different slot creation. A combination of tumbling symbols, an Avalanche reel mechanic and multipliers reminds me of Gonzo’s Quest with a sprinkle of Bonanza from BTG, although the mechanics work quite differently. Still, the game seems at least in theory capable of some seriously big wins of up to 51,200x your stake for a full screen of red gems with the maximum multiplier of x50 in the free spins.
Slot Details
Cash-O-Matic is a video slot with five reels, four rows and 1,024 ways to win. Wins are awarded for three to five symbols across the reels from left to right only, except for the top-paying red gems where two adjacent symbols result in a minor pay. Considering the win potential, the game belongs into the high variance category. A generous RTP of 96.33% should ensure though that balances don’t simply vanish.
The design resembles a cash register from the late 19th or early 20th century. The screen is divided into three parts, starting from the right with the game window in the 5×4Â format and followed by the scatter counter as well as the win multiplier. A rich goldish colour with intricate ornaments gives the game a superior appearance. A short acoustic piece in an endless loop provides the main audio.
The pay symbols are all held on finely ornamented square blocks, starting with the card royals from 10 to A at the low end. Pays for a single five of a kind are very low at 0.20x to 0.25x your stake. They are followed by five gems in different geometrical shapes in purple, blue, orange, green and red colours. Hitting five across the reels will award wins from 0.35x up to a whopping 1x your bet. There are no wilds on the reels but intricate scatters that change in colours corresponding to the amount of collected scatters.
Cash-O-Matic Reel Mechanic Explained
The slot does not have your usual spinning reels with a single outcome. Instead, any winning combination triggers the Avalanche mechanic where the winning symbols are held while the remaining ones are removed. The winning combo than falls down to the bottom and new symbols avalanche on top. Any further matching symbols or new winning combinations are again held and drop then onto the existing combo at the bottom after the losing symbols are removed. The avalanches continue as long as more matching symbols land. Wins are evaluated once the spin sequence has ended.
Completing two rows of winning symbols in the base game will trigger an x2 win multiplier while three and four rows will yield an x4 and x10 multiplier respectively. They will reset to x1 after the win for the current spin sequence is paid. It becomes more interesting in the free spins.
Cash-O-Matic Slot Features
Super stacked scatters can land on any reel. They will be removed one by one after being added to the counter on the left of the game window. A new symbol drops into place and if it is again a scatter it is as well added to the counter before being removed. This continues until now new scatters land. Should a pay symbol drop into place that forms a winning combination, then the Avalanche mechanic is triggered and the spin sequence continues as usual. More scatters can land in any avalanche, with all being added to the counter before their removal.
The free spins round is triggered when you collect minimum 10 scatters within one spin sequence with each collected scatter awarding one free spin. Anything less will be reset to zero before the next spin. Any further landing will increase the counter indefinitely, typically the total number can exceed 20 free spins.
And here comes the extra kicker that will make quite a difference to the win potential in the free spins round. The win multipliers of x1, x2, x4 and x10 from the base game are replaced with higher values based on how many scatters triggered the free spins.
- 10 – 14 scatters: will award x2, x3, x8 and x20 win multipliers.
- 15 – 19 scatters: will award x3, x6, x12 and x30 win multipliers.
- 20+ scatters: will award x5, x10, x20 and x50 win multipliers.
Final Verdict
After the atrocious Spinsane slot, NetEnt seems to have come to its senses and created with Cash-O-Matic an interesting slot that could become very popular with players. What we didn’t like are the scatter animations as tey start already when they land on one reel only. There is simply no chance to have 10 or more stacked on top of each other that would trigger then the free spins. NetEnt could have arranged it that the scatter collection starts only when two reels have scatters in view as that is at least a realistic chance to get into the bonus round. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our test runs and have it firmly planned to play Cash-O-Matic for real money when it is released in June 2019.
