Review
Join police detectives Baretta and Chase on the slot from NetEnt. Hotline is taking you on a pursuit to arrest a fugitive female thief and her loot of exclusive jewellery. Wilds expanding on active Hotlines, a Bonus Bet option, respins and a free spins round can lead to wins of up to 1,000 times your bet in a single respin feature.

Slot Details
Hotline is a video slot in a 5×3 format with 30 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can join the two intrepid detectives on desktop and mobile devices from 0.15 to 150 credits per spin. The game has low to medium volatility with an RTP range of 96.13 – 97.04%, based on how many Hotlines are activated with the bonus bet (more to that shortly).
Loading the game will take you to the fabled Miami Beach promenade at sunset in a tribute to the immensely popular TV series featuring the two police detectives. A frameless game window with intricately designed symbols and characters is dominated by a lot of bling while the expanding wilds will set off an animation of a police car chase.
The pay symbols can all appear stacked and start at the low end with a series of jewellery – a ring, a tiara and a crow – awarding 1.33x to 2x your bet for a single five of a kind. They are followed by the two male detectives Baretta and Shades as well as a female villain. Hit five on a line to win 5.33x to 13.33x your stake. A red sports car is the wild symbol, expanding when it lands on an active Hotline and substituting for all regular pay symbols. A sunset icon marked with the word itself acts as the scatter.
Hotline Slot Features
The release of Hotline saw Netent introducing a Bonus Bet feature, in this case, allowing players to select how many Hotlines to be active on a spin. Any wild landing on an active Hotline will expand before the win evaluation and also stay sticky for a free respin.
The game has three Hotlines, each being one row of the game window. One is active as default and will not increase the cost per round. At any time in the base game, players can choose which of the three rows is to be the designated Hotline. They can also use the Bonus Bet to activate two or three Hotlines for the next spin, which will increase the chance to land expanding wilds and trigger respins. The cost per spin is doubled and tripled respectively. The number of active Hotlines can be changed at any time in the base game.
Wild symbols can appear on any reel in the base game and free spins. If they land on an active Hotline, they will expand and turn sticky before triggering the Respin feature. Any further wilds landing on a Hotline will repeat the process until no new wilds land on an active Hotline on a respin or the screen is filled with expanded wilds. Win evaluations are done after each respin and paid accumulatively once the feature concludes
Hitting three scatters anywhere on reels one, three and five in one spin will trigger 7 Free Spins, which cannot be re-triggered. During the feature, all expanded wilds will stay sticky until the end of the bonus round, however, respins are not awarded.
Final Verdict
Hotline will please all Miami Vice fans and those of other cheesy 80s TV crimes series. It has the right atmosphere and the police car chase on expanded wilds is truly authentic. However, some might not be pleased with the win potential which peaks at a mere 400x the bet for a full screen of wilds or the female villain and at roughly 1,000x bet for a complete respin sequence. Worth chasing a villain for that kind of reward? Not really, in my humble opinion but the game provides ample entertainment and good value for money.
