Round 1! Fight! One of the world’s most iconic video game meets a set of slot reels on this NetEnt creation. Street Fighter II: The World Warrior is bringing back the charm of the 1990s era when Capcom’s game ruled the arcades worldwide. Cluster Pays, an Avalanche symbol mechanic and no less than eight fighters, each with its own modifier, as well as a Car Smash bonus game and a Beat The Boss Free Spins round that can lead to wins of up to 1,250 times your bet.

Slot Details

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior is a 5×5 grid slot with cluster pays and tumbling reels. You can join the reel fighters on desktop or mobile from 0.20 to a huge 700 credits per spin, although some operators might choose to reduce that to a lower limit.  The game has medium to high volatility with an RTP range of 96.02% to 96.08% depending on which fighter you will choose for your battles.

At the start of spin sequence, 25 symbols drop onto the 5×5 grid. Wins are awarded when four or more matching symbols land horizontally and/or vertically connected in a cluster. All winning symbols will shatter and disappear to make room for new ones to avalanche into place, potentially leading to a series of wins within the same sequence. A spin will end once no new winning clusters occur after an avalanche.

NetEnt is well-experienced in turning iconic movies, music bands and video games into exhilarating slots. A large part for a successful transition falls to the graphics team as that will provide not just the first impression when loading the game but also influence the player experience while spinning the reels. Doing justice to the real thing is most certainly no easy feat which makes Stree Fighter II an even more impressive creation. The design team went to great length to recreate an authentic feel and look that comes really close to the original video game. The scenery, pay symbols and animations are changing according to the selected fighter and result in a truly exhilarating gameplay.

Common to all battles are the low-value symbols from J through to A, awarding 10x your bet for winning clusters of 16 or more symbols. The high-value symbols change based on the fighter you select and the random opponent. Each will have two symbols – a victory and a defeat symbol – paying 40x and 60x your stake when clusters of 16 or more symbols appear.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Slot Features

As expected, the fights between the protagonists are the main attraction. The game is played in battles, which will usually go over multiple spins. Before the start of a battle, you will have to choose one of 8 characters who will fight a random opponent. Each fighter has a modifier that will trigger at specific points and help you in creating winning clusters (more to that shortly). Below are the fighters in ascending order of volatility, the first giving smaller wins more often while the last gives you fewer but potentially bigger wins. The RTP range changes ever so slightly between the fighters.

  • Dhalsim – RTP 96.05%: will place 3 or 4 random wilds anywhere on the grid
  • E. Honda – RTP 96.05%:  will place 3 wild symbols on random positions on the same reel
  • Ryu – RTP 96.02%: will place 3 wild symbols on random positions in a single row
  • Guile – RTP 96.04%:  will randomly place two vertical stacks with two wilds
  • Zangief – RTP 96.08%: will randomly place two horizontal stacks with  two wilds
  • Chun Li – RTP 96.08%:  will place either 2 or 7 wilds on random positions
  • Blanka – RTP 96.08%: will place either 1 or 5 wilds on the same reel
  • Ken – RTP 96.06%: will place either 1 or 5 wilds in a single row

Your chosen character will appear on the left of the game window with a Wild Gauge placed over his/her head. The battle starts when you spin the reels. A display with a Health Meter will appear on top of the reels, giving each fighter 75 points. A winning cluster with your character symbols will deal damage to your opponent equal to the symbols in the cluster while a combo with the opponent’s symbols will similarly deal damage to your fighter. Winning clusters with royals will not count.

The Wild Gauge is filled by one point for each character symbol in a winning cluster. Collecting seven points will award the wild modifier of your selected fighter, which will trigger once no new winning clusters occur after an avalanche. Multiple triggers can stack up. The win evaluation is done once the wilds are placed on random positions and the spin sequence continues as usual if new winning clusters occur. The gauge will reset at the end of each spin sequence.

As with any other battle, there are only two possible outcomes. Losing the battle will award the Car Smash Bonus Game. Just like in the video game, you will direct your character to smash the car and receive a reward between 5x and 15x your average bet in play throughout the battle. Alternatively, you can use the Quick Finish button for an instant reveal of the reward. The game will then return to the main screen where you can decide to start the next battle with the same character or change to a new one.

Winning a battle will trigger the Beat the Boss Free Spins feature. The round has no set number of free spins, instead, you will be facing up to four bosses, each coming with an increasing win multiplier. The gameplay, wild gauge and cluster mechanics are the same as in the base game, however, the Health Meter bar comes now with 25 points each only. Lose a battle and the bonus round is over, win a battle and you advance to the next boss.

  • Level 1 – Balrog: All wins multiplied by x2
  • Level 2 – Vega: All wins multiplied by x3
  • Level 3 – Sagat: All wins multiplied by x5
  • Level 4 – M.Bison All wins multiplied by x10

Beating the final boss M. Bison will get you an extra reward of 100x your bet. However, losing a battle might not be the end yet as the game will randomly trigger the Insert Coin gamble feature (not available in all jurisdictions). You can now decide to forfeit a part of your winnings to continue the bonus round by repeating the level you lost or collect all winnings and return to the base game. You will have to decide whether to keep your fighter for another battle or select a new one.

Final Verdict

Phew, that was quite something although probably not for fans of the original Street Fighter II: The World Warrior video game. NetEnt did a spectacular job in integrating all major parts of the immensely popular video game into a set of slot reels with ample extras and features that most avid gaming nerd and recreational players alike will love.
