Dare to face the bloodthirsty werewolves on The Wolf’s Bane slot from NetEnt. Initially titled The Wolf’s Night, it might be just a reskin of Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist but it is a harrowingly-well designed game for the fright season. A spooky scene in a medieval village on a full moon night will send shivers down your spine and wins of up to 500 times the bet per spin your way. The slot comes with a bonus game and a free spins round that starts with a selector for four different wilds.

Slot Details

The Wolf’s Bane is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 10 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. Dare to face the werewolves on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 96.74%.

The plot is set in a medieval village on a full moon night with wavering fog and light winds adding to the spine-chilling atmosphere. It gets really spooky every time scatters land on the front reels it will set off a harrowing wolf howl. The visuals and animation are superbly done while a haunting soundtrack is not for the fainthearted. Maybe turning down the volume will help in that case.

The pay symbols start at the low end with blood-tainted engraved card royals from J to A, awarding 8x to 10x your bet for a single five of a kind. They are followed by four characters – a female villager with a green poison vial, a hat-wearing man with a spade, an older lady with a candle and a wounded soldier with a pistol. Hit five on a line to win 20x to 50x your stake.

A werewolf is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols and paying as well 50x your bet when five land on a line. A full moon is the scatter while a werewolf hunter with a crossbow (presumably loaded with a silver arrow) acts as the bonus symbol.

The Wolf’s Bane Slot Features

For those, who played Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist a few times, there is nothing really new waiting on this creation although the werewolf theme is perfectly executed. The game has the same features that can lead to the maximum win of 500x your bet on a single spin.

The less desirable bonus element is the Pick-and-Click feature as it has the potential to pay between 5x – 50x your bet only. To trigger it you will need to land hunter symbols on reels one, three and five in one spin. You can pick one of the three to reveal your prize. And just to add insult to injury it will disclose as well the other two which are more often showing a better win.

Hit three, our or five scatters anywhere on the reels to trigger 10, 20 and 30 free spins respectively, however, no coin win. The feature can be retriggered indefinitely. The game will lead to a second screen, displaying four options for the wild symbol that will be active throughout the free spins. They are Regular Wild, Expanding Wild – expands to cover the reel, X2 Multiplier Wild – multiplies any win it is part of, Spreading Wild will spread one extra wild in one direction. After clicking on “Stop” the selector will randomly stop on one of the wilds.

Additionally, an Overlay Wild symbol randomly appears on reels one to three on every free spin that will work in the same way as the selected wild. The best option is the Expanding Wild as landing one on each reel will lead to a full screen of wilds and the maximum win in a single spin of 500 times your bet.

Final Verdict

In 2018, NetEnt reskinned Jack and the Beanstalk to stalk (pun intended) us with Halloween Jack during the spooky season and the year before that it was the near-identical sequel to Blood Suckers which they called very creatively Blood Suckers 2. The question comes up as to whether a game studio of the size of NetEnt cannot come up with something unique for Halloween (well, or Christmas for a matter of fact as they have plenty of clones for the holiday season too)? Does it have to be every year a clone or a reskin?

Well, back to this creation which in itself would be a Halloween masterpiece were it not a 100% copy of an existing slot. They could have at least increased the max win potential to make it worthwhile shivering us through a harrowing session with blood-thirsty werewolves. Renaming it at the last minute to The Wolf’s Bane didn’t help either.
