Review
Heads will roll! Get ready to relive the days of Henry VIII, the King of England in the early 16th century, who was not just an avid gambler but famous for his six marriages. Two of his wives – Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard – met an untimely demise by being beheaded. Little did the infamous king now that some 500 years later he would get his own video slot. Centering on the six wives, it comes with a random Royal Flush feature, a Heads Will Roll free spins round with guillotines and extra wilds as well as a pick-and-click bonus game called Long Live The King. Not to forget high volatility and a win potential of 5,000 times the stake.
Slot Details
Battle Royal is a video slot with five reels, three rows, and 20 fixed pay lines. Bet levels vary between minimum 0.20 credits up to a maximum of 100 credits. The RTP of this high variance game is set at 96.56%. The HTML5 format makes it available for play on desktop and mobile devices.
A royal hall with lion drapes is the backdrop to an intricate game window, which includes artistic depictions of the six wives and the king. Play’n GO gave it an elegant design that goes down to the smallest detail on the pay symbols and animations. A royal soundtrack with flutes as well as string and brass instruments that were typical for the medieval era is rather pleasing to the ear.
Battle Royal has ten regular pay symbols. The card royals – clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades – can be found at the low level, while the six wives are the premium symbols. King Henry VIII himself is the wild symbol. All premium symbols and the King symbol appear stacked at all times. Pays for a five of a kind range from 2x to 30x the stake, putting the maximum win in one spin to 600 times the stake. Coat of Arms scatters appear on reel one and five only.
Random Royal Flush Feature
The feature can be triggered on any spin the base game and will convert all low-paying card royals into a common symbol, providing more potential for big wins.
Coat of Arms Bonus Feature
Hitting scatters on reel one and five will bring them into the front for players to pick one. Choices are either the Heads Will Roll Free Spins or the Long Live The King Pick-and-Click bonus game.
Heads Will Roll Free Spins –  The round starts with the player choosing one of the six wives they think will be the last survivor on the reels. At the beginning, all wives are alive and kicking as well as a guillotine on top of each reel. On each free spin, one guillotine will fall and behead the wife character if at the least the top part of the symbol is visible on the same reel. The beheaded wife will turn into a stacked wild for the remainder of the round. The free spins continue until there is only one of the six wives left alive. The player will receive at this point an extra reward if he has chosen the right wife at the start of the free spins. Further, the player will decide the fate of the last surviving wife by placing her on one of the five reels. One guillotine will be randomly chosen to drop. The round ends if the wife is not beheaded. In the other case, the player will enter the Long Live The King bonus game.
Long Live The King Bonus Game – Help the king to collect extra loot and escape from the haunted dungeon by selecting from six chests. Each chest has a coin win and one chest will also contain a key, that will allow an instant escape and award a multiplier that is applied to the winnings from the bonus game. The multiplier will also be applied to the free spin winnings if the Long Live The King feature was entered via the free spins round. Players can select whether to take the escape or carry on picking chests. After each pick, the ghost of one of the wives will fly past the chests and if the king stands in the way, he will die and the feature ends.
Final Verdict
Is this a wacky game or what? Kudos to Play’n GO for producing this hilarious slot that actually follows the real storyline of the infamous king. Battle Royal is a superb creation that combines entertaining gameplay with high volatility but also high win potential.
