Review
Join a legendary battle knight for a voyage through three worlds on Hammerfall, the latest cascading grid slot from Play’n GO. Based on the mascot and music of the renowned Swedish power metal band, you can expect a reel carnage with random Destruction features, Lightning Wild multipliers, Hector’s Hammer, three Song features and Hammerhigh Overcharge mayhem. Get headbanging and you might return from this reel concert with wins of up to 30,000 x your bet.
Slot Details
Hammerfall is a 7×7 grid slot with cascading symbols and cluster pays. Wins are awarded for clusters of 5 or more matching symbols landing horizontally and/or vertically connected. You can get headbanging on desktop, tablet or mobile from 0.20 to 100 credits per spin. The game has high volatility (8/10) with a default RTP of 96.20%. Beware, lower settings at 94.20% or 91.20% might be offered, always check the help files to find out which version you will be playing.
Fans of the band should recognize the soundtracks to the game and its features, plus the focus on gothic style fantasy. A castle backdrop sits amongst green hills, under violent red and yellow skies for the main game, changing for each of the 3 worlds. Each Destructive feature plays one of the band’s top tracks and Hector himself can be seen around the play area, coming in many forms during the game, wielding his axe and shield wherever flashes of lightning are seen or scores of thunder heard. Hammerfall is dark, moody and as powerful as heavy metal, fantasy slots should be.
The pay symbols start at the low end with green, purple, blue, yellow and red rough-cut gemstones, mounted in spiked metal cradles and awarding 5x to 25x your bet for a cluster of 15 or more symbols. They are followed by icons with a green moon crescent, blue hammers, a golden sun and Hector himself with glowing red eyes. Hit 15+ clusters to win 40 to 500x your stake. The Hammerfall band logo in gold is the standard wild while the Lightning Wild appears in ice blue shades.
Hammerfall Slot Features
They sure do love their heavy metal at Play’n GO. Judging by the amount of Rock Slots they have released to date, I wonder sometimes whether they blast the music through the offices every day. The Swedish power metal band Hammerfall joins the likes of Sabaton, Black Mamba, Helloween to feature on a branded game, whereas on this occasion Play’n GO went again for their favoured grid format with the usual plethora of modifiers and features.
As usual with grid slot, the core to the gameplay are cascading symbols and cluster pays. At the start of a spin sequence, 49 random symbols cascade on to the grid from the top. Hit any winner, and they will be removed before new symbols tumble into place and possibly lead to multiple wins within on a spin. The process is repeated until no more winning clusters occur after a cascade.
Watch out for highlighted positions on the grid as the symbols tumble down. These Super Tiles will turn into a Lightning Wild with up to x3 multipliers if the position is cleared by a winning cluster. They will stay in position until the end of the cascade and during features.
While most of the cascading chaos is brought down by Hector wielding his hammer, four random Destruction features named after Hammerfall songs can be triggered on any non-winning spin, adding further anarchy to the reels:
- Never Forgive, Never Forgive: One symbol draws all matching symbols towards itself, destroying everything in their path and placing them grouped in the centre of the grid.
- Bring It: Highlights all premiums before either eliminating or transforming them all into a random premium.
- One Against the World: Highlights one symbol type and any adjacent symbols to those selected before either converting them to the same symbol or destroying all, allowing more room for cascades.
- Chain of Command: Creates a chain of symbols on the grid that is then destroyed or transformed into one matching symbol.
The reel mayhem is taking you through three worlds, each with a distinct feature that is triggered by charging the Hammer Meter. All symbols from winning clusters are added to the meter with 25 needed for a full charge. Once hitting the threshold, it will trigger the Song Feature of the current world, again, each named after a Hammerfall song.
- Twilight Princess Song Feature: Adds a 2×2 Mega Wild to a random position on the grid.
- Second to None Song Feature: Will change all premiums to a randomly selected premium. If less than 5 high-paying symbols are present, then a random low-paying symbol type is also transformed.
- And Yet I Smile Song Feature: Takes all low-paying symbols and destroys them.
Once any Song feature has concluded, the game progresses instantly to the next world in a fixed rotation order. Charging the meter again, will unleash the next modifier and so on.
Should your cascades descend into reel anarchy and overcharge the Hammer Meter with a further 25 winning symbols within one cascading sequence for a total of 50 or more, the Hammer High feature is triggered. This brings a wave of destruction and reel mayhem in a free game round with all 3 Song Feature modifiers unleashed successively. The feature continues after the last Song modifier until no more winning clusters occur.
Final Verdict
Hammerfall is not the first rock band Playn’ GO has worked with. Testament, Saxon, Black Mamba and Helloween are just some of the band-related titles. Hammerfall also joins a long line of cascading grid slots from Play’n GO, such as Reactoonz and Viking Runecraft. These are hard acts to follow, but with its exquisitely detailed theme, a new twist of Super Lightning Wilds plus Hectors chaotic song-themed features, Hammerfall may become more than just a groupie’s favourite.
Beware Play’n GO releases their slots with a choice of RTP for casino operators. Default RTP for Hammerfall is 96.2% although alternative versions of 94.2% and 91.2% are available. On a different note, the odds of hitting the max win of 30,000x bet are stated with 1:2.42E-16 or 1:24,200,000,000,000,000 spins. Easier to comprehend maybe is 1: 24.2 quadrillion spins. Chances are high that we will never see it in our lifetime.
