Review
Prepare to taste a different kind of sweet on the slot from the master of grid games Play’n GO. Honey Rush comes with a honeycomb-style grid where symbols cascade into place to form winning combination, which will explode to make room for new symbols to fall into place. Charge the Rush Meter by hitting consecutive winning clusters to unleash Drone, Worker and Queen Colonies that will create bigger symbol clusters and add sticky wilds that can lead to wins of up to 9,000 times your stake.
Slot Details
Honey Rush is a hexagonal grid slot in a 4-5-6-7-6-5-4 format. Symbols are cascading onto the grid and wins paid when five or more land adjacently connected in a cluster. You can please your sweet tooth on desktop or mobile from 0.20 to 100 credits per spin. The game is highly volatile (10/10) with an RTP of 96.54%. Some operators might offer the game at a lower setting of 94.50%, always check the help file to find out which version you will be playing.
A mainly blurred nature scene is in the background of the translucent game window that is flanked on each site by various action displays and trees. Some the favourite flowers of bees on their arduous journey to collect pollen feature prominently on the reels. At press time, we only had a game sheet for the review, hence, we were not able to write about the soundtrack but will update this post as soon as we can.
Open the game to find four flowers at the low end of the payable – petunias, pink flowers, roses and sunflowers – awarding 0.1x to 20x your bet to for clusters of 5 to 35+ symbols. They are followed by bronze, silver and gold coins as well as a diamond at the high level. The same cluster sizes will pay 0.3x to 200 times your stake. Honeypots marked with x1, x2 or x3 are the wild symbols, substituting for all pay symbols.
Honey Rush Slot Features
Play’n GO is probably the best grid slot maker of all developers and releases regularly such games, the latest being Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness. On Honey Rush, they took yet again a completely different approach with a hexagonal grid where symbols drop from the top at the start of a spin sequence. To score a win, you need to land clusters of minimum five symbols which is similar to a 3-of-a-kind on a reel slot. Any winning clusters will be removed after the win is paid and new symbols drop into place, potentially creating new clusters. The spin sequence continues until no new wins occur after a fresh drop.
All wins contribute to increasing the Rush Meter, which is placed on the right of the game window (desktop version). When a charge level is complete, the respective features are added to the queue. If the meter is charged and no further wins are visible, the next feature in the queue is activated. The game round will continue as normal after all effects until no new wins occur. The meter is reset at the end of a spin. The game has in total four charge levels, a meter
- Level 1 – after 20 winning symbols: Activates the Drone Colony before adding one sticky wild to the grid.
- Level 2 – after 40 winning symbols: Activates the Drone Colony before adding one sticky wild to the grid.
- Level 3 – after 80 winning symbols: Activates the Drone Colony before adding one sticky wild to the grid.
- Level 4 – after 160 winning symbols: Activates Queen Colony only.
The Colony features are triggered either randomly on non-winning spins or via the Rush Meter. When activated, the symbol in the direct centre of the grid is chosen before being cloned from the centre in a random pattern, creating a new winning cluster. The centre symbol cannot be a sticky wild.
- Drone Colony: Is triggered via the Rush Meter and creates a minimum cluster of 7 symbols.
- Worker Colony: Triggers randomly on losing spins and creates a minimum cluster of 7-15 symbols.
- Queen Colony: Is triggered via the Rush Meter and creates a minimum cluster of 20 to 37 symbols.
The sticky wild symbol substitutes for all symbols and multiplies all wins by x1, x2 or x3. This symbol is only added to the grid via the Rush Meter and is always placed in a random position on the second ring of symbols from the outside. When forming part of a winning cluster, a sticky wild will move once to an empty adjacent position before new symbols fall. You can have up to three sticky wilds at any time on the grid, leading potentially to a maximum win multiplier of up to x27.
Final Verdict
Well, this is an unusual game that feels a little like Reactoonz due to the variety of modifiers and the Rush Meter. However, don’t let your sweet tooth guide you too much as the game has maximum volatility. Still, I have no doubt that Honey Rush will be popular with the casino community just like most other grid slots from Play’n GO. On a side note, the chances to hit the maximum win of 9,000x your bet are some in the region of 1:260 trillion spins. The game will be good though for regular wins in the 600x to 1,000x bet range.
