Review
Watch the majestic firebird rise from the ashes on the slot from Red Tiger Gaming. Phoenix Fire Power Reels will bring the mythical Phoenix to life in a random feature and a free spins round with symbol transformation that can lead to wins of up to 1,940 times your bet.
Slot Details
Phoenix Fire Power Reels is a video slot with eight reels, six rows and 30 fixed pay lines. The game has a pay-anywhere mechanic awarding wins for minimum three matching symbols on a pay line from left to right starting on any reel. Playable on desktop or mobile, bet sizes range from 0.10 to 40 credits per spin. A medium to high volatility (4/5) is complemented with an RTP of 96.22%.
Red Tiger is known for its flawless and rich graphics. Their designs always look polished and clean with relevance to the theme. On this creation, an ancient scroll with Phoenix depictions and scribbles is the background to a giant game window. The Phoenix itself will make a regular appearance with a stunning animation as the wild symbol as well as during the random feature. A rather serene soundtrack goes into dramatic crescendos on teaser spins and big wins.
All pay symbols bar scatters can appear stacked at all times. At the low end, they are the card suites – diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades – awarding 8x your bet for a single eight of a kind. The premium symbols are scrolls, rings, spellbooks and chalices. Hit eight on a line to win 20x to 50x your stake.
The rising Phoenix appears as a 3-row high Super Wild symbol, substituting for all regular symbols and paying also 50x your bet when eight land on a line. A jade green gem held in a golden frame and marked with “Free Spins” acts as the scatter the scatter. The last icon is a winged symbol that has no value as such but will play a significant role in one of the features.
Phoenix Fire Power Reels Slot Features
The Power Reels series from Red Tiger Gaming stands out for a whole lot of reels and rows but not for the number of pay lines or ways to win. The best example other than this creation is Five Star Power Reels which has a similar format with only five pay lines, yet still comes with a win potential of 10,000x your bet. Naturally, there have to be some modifiers or boosters that make it possible to hit that kind of wins. On Phoenix Fire Power Reels the honours go to the fabled firebird with its majestic rise from the ashes.
You might have asked yourself by now why the winged symbols appear on the reels when they have no pay value and look like they actually block winning combinations. Well, there is a very good reason as they will turn into wild symbols on two occasions. First is when the Phoenix Super Wild lands on a spin as it will turn all adjacent winged symbols connecting to it into wild symbols. This also applies to winged symbols that are present on multiple reels as long as they connect to the one adjacent to the Phoenix Super Wild.
The Phoenix Wildfire feature can trigger randomly on any spin when no Phoenix Super Wilds are on the reels. It will majestically appear and may transform all winged symbols in view into wild symbols.
It gets even better when you hit tree scatters anywhere on the reels to trigger seven Free Spins which can be retriggered. While in the base game only one Phoenix Super Wild symbol can appear in a spin, you will benefit from up to three Super Wilds in every free spin, significantly increasing the potential number of winged symbols that will be transformed into wilds and thus creating extra winning combinations.
Final Verdict
I am somewhat on the fence whether to like this type of slot. It sure keeps eyes and brain busy due to the sheer size of the game window and amount of reels and rows as there is a lot going on. Further covering up the fact that there are only 30 paylines is the pay-anywhere mechanic, giving the impression that the slot has a high hit rate when in reality it is no more than on standard slot formats. Personally, I won’t add it to my favourites list but I can see it appealing to some players.
