Review
Novomatic’s epic Reel King slot has just received the Red Tiger makeover. The immensely popular arcade game is now bigger, better and bolder. Fans of the original can now spin the reels on mobile or desktop to trigger the in-game mini-slots for guaranteed wins of up to 500x their bet. Plus, the King’s Crown may randomly bounce around the screen on any spin to turn symbols into wilds.
At this point, we have to give some credit to Barcrest, who designed the original and made it to a punter’s favourite in the amusement arcades in the UK. It was only about a decade later in 2014 when Novomatic designed an online version and released it under the name of their subsidiary Greentube. It has since become an equal favourite for online players.
Slot Details
Reel King Mega is a video slot with five reel, three rows and 20 fixed pay lines. Playable on any desktop or mobile device, you can turn the reels from 0.20 to 100 credits per spin. The game has low to medium volatility with an average hit rate. At press time, we could not confirm the RTP but it should be in the usual Red Tiger range of 96%.
A park scene, maybe from a royal mansion, with a red hue and stashes of gold coins are the backdrop to a simplistic game window that has not gone through many changes during the makeover from Red Tiger Gaming, nor has the soundtrack been altered. The reels have a white’blue blackground changing randomly to a yellow colour, which will play a vital role for triggering the Reel King feature.
The confusing pay symbol set has remained virtually unchanged, starting with cherries, plums 10s and Js at the low end. Hit five on a line to win 2x to 3x your bet. At the high end, you will find Qs, Ks and money bags (no jackpot mark), paying 5x to 25x your stake for a single five of a kind. The jester hat is still the wild substituting for all symbols. All including the wild can appear as super symbol in a 2×2 size.
Reel King Mega Slot Features
Watch out for the king’s crown on top of the slot logo at end of every spin in the base game as it can bounce onto the reels to turn a random number of symbols including super symbols into wild symbols for the current spin. Expect to see one to three swapped wilds, occasionally more. Wins are evaulated and paid after the transformation. A full screen of wilds would pay the maximum win in the base game, coming it at 500 times your bet.
The main act on the slot is the Reel King feature, which will trigger when all reels are highlighted in yellow when they stop. Up to five Reel King characters can randomly appear (one per reel to expand into a mini-slot with three reels and just one pay line. Symbols on the reels are blue, yellow and red sevens as well as blanks. The mini-slots will spin until you do not hit a win. A combination of the differently coloured sevens will pay 2x your bet while three blue, yellow or red sevens will pay 5x, 10x and 25x your stake. The maximum win from the bonus game is 500x your bet.
Final Verdict
Well, here is another classic that has been transitioned into the mobile age. Existing and soon-to-be fans can now take the Reel King for a spin on their mobile devices wherever they are. The supposedly low volatility should provide for long sessions even on a small budget while the maximum win of 500 times the stake sounds low but should be regularly achievable.
