Review
Descend into deep waters in search of the lost city and big jackpots on the slot from ReelPlay. Atlantis Megaways is the second release from the Australian game studio that is using the popular game engine, taking you on a high-volatility reel journey to the ancient mythical world of the sunken city. Cascading symbols, wild substitutions, reactive wins and a Jackpot Respins bonus game where four fixed jackpots are up for grabs can lead to wins of up to 8,640 times your bet.
Slot Details
Atlantis Megaways is a cascading video slot with six reels, up to seven rows as well as 324 to 117,649 ways to win. The exact number of ways is randomly determined for every spin sequence by dropping between two and seven pay symbols onto reels one and six as well as two to six pay symbols for reels two to five. Additionally, the game has an extra reel at the top of the game window with four positions, extending from reel two to five, where more symbols appear on every spin. A display in the top right corner shows the total amount of active ways to win for the current spin sequence.
Wins are paid for adjacent symbols from left to right. The symbols from a winning combination are part of a reaction which will see them explode to make room for new symbols to cascade into place. This will continue as long as a new winning combination occurs after a reaction. Wins are accumulated from all cascades and paid before the next spin sequence starts.
Your underwater reel adventure on desktop, tablet or mobile starts at 0.20 credits and peaks at 25 credits. Some operators might offer it with higher bet limits of up to 100 credits. The game has medium to high volatility with an RTP of 96.095%.
Loading the game will take you into deep waters, opening up a view of the lost city with light protruding from the surface. The reels are dominated by the mighty god of the seas Poseidon and a variety of aquatic life such as seahorses, lionfish and dolphins. The game window is divided into two parts, the main reel set as well as the extra horizontal reel where more symbols appear. The four displays for the fixed jackpots and the counter for the current Megaways are placed on either side of the grid. A suspenseful aquatic soundtrack completes the slot design.
All pay symbols except wilds and scatters can appear stacked at any time. They start at the low end with the card royals from 10 through to A, awarding 0.5x to 1.0x your bet for a single six of a kind. The premium symbols are lionfish, seahorses, an octopus, dolphins and Poseidon. Hit six across the reels to win 1.2x to 100x your stake.
An ancient Pantheon marked with the wort itself is the wild symbol, appearing in the horizontal reel only and substituting for all regular pay symbols. The game has two scatters, the regular type are treasure chests while pearl clams are jackpot scatters.
Atlantis Megaways Slot Features
After Hypernova Megaways, the first slot from ReelPlay using the popular game engine was well received in the casino community, the developer decided to give us an identical sibling but is taking us underwater instead of into deep space. The fabled lost city of Atlantis is now at the centre of attention while the bonus features have remained unchanged.
Hittin six or more treasure chest and/or pearl clam scatters within one spin sequence will trigger the Jackpot Respins feature. The number of Megaways and all triggering scatters will be locked in and initially three respins awarded with all other reel positions blanked out. The reels will spin and any new scatter symbol landing will be locked in as well and the respin counter reset to three. The feature continues until you either run out of spins or the entire screen is filled with scatters.
Each treasure chest scatter in view will be marked with a random coin win from 1x to 100x your bet while the pearl clam scatters will award the jackpots based on the colour of the pearl. The game has four fixed jackpots – Blue Pearl/Mini Jackpot at 10x bet, Red Pearl/Minor Jackpot at 50x bet, White Pearl/Major Jackpot at 250x bet and Gold Pearl/Grand Jackpot at 2,000x bet. The two smaller jackpots can be won multiple times in a single bonus round while the two major jackpots only once. Worth noting is that they are not progressive. The maximum win potential in the respins is 6,250x your bet.
Final Verdict
Well, getting the news for the release of Atlantis Megaways filled us with anticipation as to what the team at ReelPlay cooked up in their slot kitchen. However, once we took a closer look it turned out to be an identical sibling of their first Megaways game. Not very creative but their debut slot proved very popular among casino players, so you can really fault them on releasing a twin. It plays just as well and has the same win potential, giving fans of the Hypernova Megaways an alternative.
Update 14th January 2020: The game will go live in Q2/2020 at brands of the Rank Group as part of their “Originals” series before being released globally at some point in Q3/2020.
