Review
Enter the world of Bastet, the Egyptian goddess of protection and cats, on the slot from WMS and score one of five fixed jackpots worth up to 2,000 times your stake. You will get to see Bastet as 2×2 wild at all times and enjoy a bonus round with up to 55 free spins.
Slot Details
Desert Cats is a video slot with seven reels, four rows and 50 fixed pay lines. Play with the cat goddess on mobile or desktop from 0.50 to 100 credits. The RTP of this medium variance game is set at 95.79%, slightly below the industry average. Use Autoplay to select 10 to 200 consecutive options without interruption. A choice of limits can be set that will stop the run.
The backdrop to the 3D game window is a desert scene on a full moon night. HD graphics give the entire design a high-quality feel, very much the standard we know from WMS. Typical Egyptian artefacts and gods populate the reels. An oriental soundtrack is accompanied by the usual reel and win count noises.
Open the game to find the card royals from 10 to A at the low end, followed in ascending order by ankh crosses, stone tablets, pharaoh masks, Bastet herself and an Egyptian beauty. A golden desert cat is the wild symbol, appearing in three different variations, either as 1×1 or 2×2 symbols and substituting for all symbols except scatters. The 2×2 symbols can contain red or green gems that will trigger one of the five fixed jackpots. Pays for a single seven of a kind are unusually low at 0.3x to 4x bet. A lion with a large red gem on his head is the scatter symbol.
Wild Reels in the Base Game
The most visible feature on this slot are the two connected wild reels. They only contain 2×2 wild desert cat symbols, each carrying six gems. The two connected reels will move to a random position on each spin, providing more potential to score a win. Single wilds appear on all other reels.
Triggering the Jackpots
The wild desert cats on the connected reels carry three gems on their forehead and two in their eyes. With a 2×2 size, there will be always two cats in view on every spin. To trigger one of the five fixed jackpots a total of at least six gems on the two cats need to appear in red colour. The jackpots cannot be won during the free spins feature.
- 6 Red Gems will trigger the Minor Jackpot, worth 10 times your stake
- 7 Red Gems will trigger the Medium Jackpot, worth 40 times your stake
- 8 Red Gems will trigger the Major Jackpot, worth 80 times your stake
- 9 Red Gems will trigger the Super Jackpot, worth 600 times your stake
- 10 Red Gems will trigger the Mega Jackpot, worth 2,000 times your stake
The Free Spins Feature
Hitting three, four or five scatters on a spin will trigger 5, 15 or 50 free spins respectively. During the feature, maximum three scatters can land in one spin, adding +5 free spins on each occasion, up to a maximum of 55 free spins. A second set of connected reels is added to the reels with the wild cats carrying the gems being replaced with standard 2×2 wilds. No other multipliers or reel modifiers are in play in the free spins.
Final Verdict
Well, is this a journey worth taking? Whilst we love Egyptian themed slots, this one will not end up on our favourites list. The jackpots are surely enticing but the pays in the base game are just mediocre. A full screen of the Egyptian beauty or in combination with wild symbols will pay a very low 200x stake. Considering how rarely that will happen, it won’t be worth chasing. However, the game plays well and is nicely designed, so maybe not too bad for a few spins in between.
