Review
Delve into Greek mythology for an encounter with the mighty god of the underworld on the slot from Yggdrasil Gaming. Hades Gigablox is the second game to feature their proprietary mechanic that links reels on every spin with the potential to create huge symbol blocks of up to a 6×6 size. Hades Wild Hunts and a Free Spins feature with progressive multipliers can lead to wins of up to 9,000 times your bet.
Update 5th October 2020: The game is now live exclusively at brands of the GVC Holdings group including Party Casino, bwin, Coral and Ladbrokes. It will go global as scheduled on 22nd October 2020.
Slot Details
Hades Gigablox is a video slot with six reels, six rows and 50 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to six matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can face the mighty god on desktop and mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 96.00%.
Yggdrasil Gaming is known for its elaborate designs and stunning visuals on their slot creations. Hades Gigablox is no different, taking us into the dark realms of the god of the underworld. While an ancient Parthenon shines through the hazy background, the highlight must be the two columns flanking the giant reel set. An amalgamation of skulls and golden snakes is carried by lost souls while Hades stands on the side of the game window, ready to unleash his powers on any spin. A weighty heavy metal tune provides the fitting audio, interrupted only by occasional rumbling sounds from Gigablox symbols and win count noises.
The pay symbols start at the low end with the four card suits – blue diamonds, purple spades, green clubs and red hearts – all held on crafted stones and awarding across the board 2x your bet for a single six of a kind. They are complemented by four monsters in matching colours – blue, purple, green and red. Hit six across the reels to win 4x to 8x your stake. Wild symbols appear only after Hades defeats monsters in the Wild Hunt feature and will substitute for all regular pay symbols. Hades’ three-headed hound Cerberus acts as the scatter.
Hades Gigablox Slot Features
After delving into Japanese culture on Lucky Necko Gigablox with the popular Daruma dolls roaming the reels, Yggdrasil Gaming is taking us into the dark underworld of the powerful Greek god on the second creation with their proprietary Gigablox mechanic. It has been slightly skewed on Hades Gigablox, allowing the highly-desirable maximum 6×6 symbol blocks to appear at any time in the gameplay.
On every spin in the base game and free spins, it will merge and synchronize anything from two to six reels that will display common Gigablox symbols. The game can create just one or multiple synched reel partitions, for example, one with two reels and one with 3 reels as shown in the screenshot above. Based on how many reels are synched, you will have only 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5 or 6×6 Gigablox symbols appear on them.
New on Hades Gigablox is the Wild Hunt modifier, which will trigger randomly on any spin in the base game and on every spin in the bonus feature. The screen will darken before Hades attacks on monster symbols that landed on the reels. Every defeated monster will turn into a wild symbol for the current spin. The win evaluation is done once all fights have concluded.
Hitting five or more Cerberus scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will trigger the Free Spins feature. Any Gigablox scatter landing on the triggering spin will be divided into individual symbols and one free spin awarded per scatter, giving you anything from 5 to 36 free spins to start the round. Any scatter landing during the round will add +1 free spins, no limits. The Wild Hunt feature will trigger on every free spin.
Before the start of the round, two displays are placed on either side of the blazing reels. On the left is a collection meter where one point is added for every defeated monster in the Wild Hunt fight. Monster Gigablox are calculated by the symbol size, for example, a defeated 2×2 Monster Gigablox will yield four points. At various thresholds in the collection, the win multiplier on the second display will gradually increase from x1 all the way up to x10. For each level-up, an extra +2 free spins are awarded.
- 10 points from successful Wild Hunts: Multiplier increases to x2
- 25 points from successful Wild Hunts: Multiplier increases to x3
- 45 points from successful Wild Hunts: Multiplier increases to x5
- 70 points from successful Wild Hunts: Multiplier increases to x10
Final Verdict
Having any of the Greek or Egyptian gods in the slot title instantly raises the expectations of what we are going to see happening on the reels. Suspenseful gameplay with striking modifiers and features are virtually a must to do justice to the powerful deities. Hades Gigablox mostly fits the description although it looks light at various points as there is rather little happening in the base game other than the rumblings from the Gigablox symbols. The Wild Hunt feature does not trigger often enough to deliver rollercoaster moments. It changes in the bonus round where Hades attacks the monsters on every spin, creating an intense atmosphere and occasionally mega wins. The potential peaks at a respectable 9,000 times your bet.
