Slot Details
Valley of the Gods 2 is a video slot with six reels in a 1-2-3-4-5-2 format with 240 ways to win as default. Scoring consecutive wins within a spin sequence will gradually open the full grid in a 3-4-5-6-7-8 size with 20,160 ways (more to that shortly). You can embark on your explorer journey on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility (square root of variance is 92) with an RTP of 96.00%.
Yggdrasil usually excels when it comes to graphics and visuals. Their slots are often feasts for the eyes with bold colours and authentic designs. Valley of the Gods 2 fits perfectly into that category, fielding a conical-shaped reel set that is partially covered with scarab blockers as default. A typical scene of ancient Egypt with temple columns, palm trees and pyramids is in the background of the blurred desert scenery that seems to come from a passing sandstorm. An oriental soundtrack is minutely synchronized to the action on the reels.
The pay symbols start at the low end with card royals from 9 through to A, awarding 2x to 4x your bet for a single six of a kind. They are followed by four Egyptian deities – Anubis, Horus, Sobek and Bastet – at the high level. Hit six across the reels to win 8x to 20x your stake. Sekhmet, the goddess of the sun, war, destruction, plagues and healing, is the wild symbol, appearing as at all times in full reel height and substituting for any other pay symbol. There are no scatters on this slot.
Valley of the Gods Slot Features
Creating a sequel to a popular slot is rarely an easy feat for any game provider. Change too much of the DNA and players won’t see it as a sequel, leave most of the original and they think that the designers took the lazy road. Yggdrasil has done well in balancing between the two extremes and gave Valley of the Gods 2 a new reel set while keeping most of the mechanics and bonus features.
At the core of the gameplay is the dynamic slot window which appears as default in a 1-2-3-4-5-2 format with 16 positions covered by scarab blockers. The aim is to open the grid to its full 3-4-5-6-7-8 size and trigger the bonus feature. Scoring any win will see white scarabs escape from the symbols in the combo, each unblocking one tile in a semi-random pattern, e.g. a single 4-of-a-kind will uncover four positions.
At the same time, the game awards a free Respin. Hitting another winner will unlock more blocker tiles and another respin is initiated. The process continues as long as new winners land after a respin or the entire grid has been opened up. Failing to unlock all tiles, will end the spin sequence and the accumulated win is paid before the grid reset to its default format.
Once all blockers are removed, then all white scarabs left on the reels will turn randomly into either red, yellow or blue scarabs and the Respin Feature continues with the full-sized grid. Scarabs will be collected in the respective feature displays on the side of the game window – Win Multipliers, Wild Reels and Extra Lives. All three will be active throughout the bonus feature and scoring wins will add more scarabs to the counters based on the colours of the pay symbols in the winning combo. Here’s what each feature will get you:
- Extra Lives – Red Pay Symbols: Scarabs emerge from winning red coloured symbols – Q, A, Horus – and are collected in the counter. One extra life is awarded for every five scarabs. Scoring no win on a spin will deduct one life.
- Wild Reel – Green&Purple Pay Symbols: Scarabs emerge from winning green and purple high-value symbols – Sobek and Bastet. One reel will be turned into stacked wild for every five scarabs. The wild reel will stay sticky until it is part of a win or the respin feature ends.
- Win Multiplier – Blue Pay Symbols: Scarabs emerge from winning blue symbols – 9, K, Anubis – and are collected in the counter. The win multiplier starts at x2 and increases by x1 for every five scarabs, no limits.
You will be given one extra life and an x2 win multiplier at the start of the feature, meaning you will get at least one more free respin should you fail to score a win on the first spin. Collecting sufficient extra life scarabs will increase the counter and keep the feature going. It all comes to an end when you run out of lives. All wins including those from the triggering spin are accumulated and paid before the game window reset to the default format.
Final Verdict
Valley of the Gods 2 is a deserving sequel with enough improvements and changes that separates it sufficiently from the original. The unusual reel arrangements is a welcome change from standard reel formats. The only thing that did not change significantly is the win potential which peaks now at a very similar 5,841x bet.
