Review
Get ready to be made a reel king on the slot from Big Time Gaming. Question is whether you write that as Kingmaker or King Maker. While online dictionaries didn’t give us a conclusive answer, we are convinced that Kingmaker Megaways will have the potential to become a players’ favourite just like most creations from this studio. The ingenious Megaways game engine is the backbone of a fast-paced slot with progressive win multipliers in the base game and a free spins round with accumulative multipliers that can lead to wins of up to a reported 40,000 times your stake.
Big Time Gaming fans and connoisseurs will recognize some similarities to the January 2019 release Holy Diver Megaways. While both have a medieval theme, BTG opted for a more simplified gameplay without the Reel Adventure feature and a much lower maximum number of ways to win.

Slot Details
Kingmaker Megaways is a video slot with five reels, up to seven rows and up to 16,807 ways. On every spin, the patented game engine randomly selects between two and seven symbols on each reel, creating minimum 32 up to the maximum ways to win. Pays are awarded for two to five matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right only.
Your quest to become a reel king on desktop or mobile will cost you 0.20 to 20 credits per spin. According to our first assessment, the game is trending towards high volatility. It comes with an RTP of 96.65%, which should ensure that balances don’t simply vanish.
A medieval scene opens up when you load the game. A castle in the midst of a gorgeous countryside surrounded by lush greenery and snow-capped mountains in the distance mirror in the crystal-clear river in the front. Four differently coloured flags flutter on the left of the game window and will be your accumulators for the win multipliers. Trigger the free spins and you will be taken inside the grand hall of the castle where golden treasures await. Expect the usual BTG reel and win count noises.
BTG has always been very consistent with their pay symbol set on their slots and that applies also to Kingmaker Megaways. The low-value symbols are the card royals from 9 through to A, paying 0.3x to 0.4x your stake for a single six of a kind. They are followed by differently coloured gems marked with mythical creatures – green snake, blue manticore (winged lion), red minotaur and purple dragon. Hit five across the reels to win 0.5x to 10x your bet.
The wild symbol can appear on reels two to five only, substituting for all regular symbols. A golden crown ornamented with gems acts as the scatter symbol.
Kingmaker Megaways Slot Features
Key to the entire gameplay and big wins are the gem symbols, and that counts for the base game as well as free spins. During the base game, you will see four flags on the left, each marked with Gem Multipliers and the corresponding mythical creature. Hitting a five-of-a-kind of gem symbol will increase the multiplier for the respective gem colour by x1, no limits. Note, that in the base game each multiplier is only applied to winning combinations of the corresponding gem symbol.
The Gem Multipliers will also play a significant role in the bonus round. Hitting three, four or five crown scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will award 7, 12 and 20 free spins respectively, which can be indefinitely retriggered. It will also pay 4x, 20x and 250x your bet for three, four and five scatters.
All current Gem Multipliers will be now added to a general win multiplier for all wins during the feature, which is played on the maximum 16,807 ways to win. The individual multipliers will be reset to x1 before the round starts but can be collected again during the free spins. Contrary to the base game, every five of a kind of gem symbols will increase the overall win multiplier by x1, not just for the respective gem.
Looking at the multiplier mechanic, it will create a conundrum for players. Trigger the free spins quickly (what we usually want) and you’ll have a low win multiplier for the round. On the other hand, a long wait for the free spins trigger will give you potentially a significantly higher win multiplier but could also drain your balance if the base game does not perform well.
Final Verdict
Kingmaker Megaways is visually a feast for the eyes. Kudos to the graphics teams at BTG as they have done a spectacular job in creating an appealing sight with a high level of intricacy on the semi-transparent pay symbols. At press time, we had not played the game in demo mode yet and relied on game sheets for the review. Hence, we can’t give a verdict at this point on how it fares compared to other Megaways titles but will update the review as soon as possible.
Our first impression, however, sees a simplified gameplay from the Holy Diver mechanic that can nevertheless lead to some huge mega wins in the base game and free spins. No doubt, Big Time Gaming has shown yet again that they are never short of ideas and concepts that surprise even the most veteran of slot players.
Update 19th June 2019: Well, we had our first real look at the game and it sure is not for the fainthearted. Triggering the free spins can take extended periods and while the multiplier is then rather high, it is no guarantee that the round will pay well as you still need to score wins to reap the benefits of the multiplier. However, it can pay huge when both, high multipliers and good winning combos come together. A dream for high-volatility fans.
