Many might not know or remember that Electric Sam was the debut slot to emanate from Elk Studios in January 2014 and to much acclaim at that. It firmly placed the then-newcomer on the iGaming map. The original was then followed up in 2017 with Sam on the Beach with the hilarious troll family visiting their Uncle Ted on a faraway tropical island. More than five years later, we are invited to the next family reel adventure on Book of Sam.

Typical Book of … slots come with a volatile base game and a Free Spins round. Elk Studios took it a step further and integrated the three Electric Treat modifiers from Sam on the Beach into the base game and bonus round. They are triggered any time a family member lands in a winning combination, which can include wild symbols. Here’s what they will do:

• Maggie Electric Treat – Symbol Removal: Maggie will remove all royals, Bastet symbols and herself before the remaining ones drop to the bottom and new symbols avalanche into the empty spaces. Wild Book scatters as well as during the Free Spins the selected expanding symbols are not removed.
• Sandra Electric Treat – Win Multiplier: Sandra increases the Win Multiplier shown in the top left by x1 for each winning line.
• Sam Electric Treat – Sam will spawn a Wild Book scatter in a random position.

Once the respective Sandra or Sam modifiers are activated, the game will award 2 Respins which can be retriggered indefinitely by landing more winning combinations with the two characters. Any Wild Book scatter will remain sticky for the duration of the respins. Hitting more than one modifier will see them play out consecutively before respins start.

Landing three to five scatters anywhere on the reels will trigger 8 Free Spins whereas the same combos will retrigger +4 spins during the feature, no limits. One or more pay symbols are chosen as the Expanding Symbols, up to a maximum of five including after retriggers. Any time sufficient hit on a free spin, two for premiums or three for royals, they will expand and award a scattered payout for all 10 lines even when they did not appear aligned.

The Electric Treats can be triggered too, whereas Sandra’s win multiplier will not reset between free spins and will instead keep growing every time she lands in a winning combo. However, the multiplier is awarded only when one of the Electric Treats is active. A Wild Book placed through a Sam Electric Treat will stay sticky and expand as wild during the respins. It all ends when you run out of spins or hit the max win at 10,000x bet.

Elk Studios included again their X-iter menu for unrestricted jurisdictions, offering a plethora of Bonus Buy options. It starts with the Bonus Hunt for 2x the base bet which doubles the chance of a Free Spins trigger and goes via guaranteed Electric Treat for 10x bet up to a Super Bonus for 500x stake where all symbols are expanding symbols. Final Verdict

Anyone aware of slots from Elk Studios will know that they like to do things out of the ordinary. As such, Book of Sam might seem to be just another Book of… slot at first but it comes with some surprising twists and turns that will make it stand out from the crowd, and that by a mile. Overall, probably the best Book of … slot ever made were it not for the 94% default RTP, although chances are that we might see a 95 or 96% version too.
