Review
Travel to the Himalayan mountains in search of the lost city of treasures on the slot from Elk Studios and climb the Stairway to Fortune to reach the summit where mega wins await. But beware, it will be a treacherous journey on a highly volatile game and you will need all the help you can get. Two friendly companions, the fire spirit Chi and the wind spirit Mow, will come to your aid by unleashing their special powers onto the reels.
Persevere through the dangerous grounds and the two spirits will reward your bravery with random features, a free spins round and a bonus game that can lead to wins of up to 12,500 times your bet.
Slot Details
Chi is a unique vertical slot with five reels, three rows and 27 pay lines, awarding wins both ways and thus resulting in a total of 54 pay lines. Your quest for the lost city on mobile, desktop and tablet will cost you 0.20 to 20 credits per spin. The RTP of this highly volatile game is set at a flat 96.00%.
Graphics and Visuals
A serene mountain scene with blossoms and temples awaits when you open the Chi slot. Two totems flank the vertical game window which will come to life when the symbols align and transform into Chi and Mow. A typical entrance to a mountain temple holds the reels together with the display for the win multiplier. An equally serene and relaxing Asian soundtrack will lift your mood on your long journey.
Pay Symbols
While we received the main info pack for the Chi slot, it was missing the pay table. Hence, we can only list the pay symbols but can’t organize them in order of value. They look stunning and include carps, cups, fans, flutes, gourd-shaped bottles, jade stones, lanterns and lotus flowers. Going by past experience, the lotus flower should be the most valuable symbol. We will update the review in the coming days the soon we can take a look at the pay table.
Update 21th April 2019: We can now update the review with the payouts for the Chi slot. The low-value symbols – flutes, fans, gourds and carps – award 2x to 2.5x your stake for a five of a kind. while the premium symbols – jade stones, gourd-shaped bottles, lanterns and lotus flowers – pay 3x to 10x your bet for a single 5OAK.
There are also three special symbols on the reels of the Chi slot. First is an intricate golden tile marked with the word ‘wild’ which will substitute for all symbols except scatters and bonus symbols. Scatters are an equally intricate tile with the words ‘Free Spins” while the Yin Yang symbol acts as the bonus symbol.
The Random Spirits of Fire and Wind
To help you on your quest, the fire and wind spirits of Chi and Mow are eager to use their impressive powers and increase your chances to hit big wins. The two fire and wind totems on each side of the vertical game window are divided into three segments, which will show an artistic drawing of the fire and wind when they lign up. They will turn at the start of every spin and will release their respective spirit when the drawing lines up after they stop. The released spirits will award a modifier for the current spin. Both can be activated in the same spin.
- Chi: The fire totem Chi generates fireballs resulting in one to six random wilds to be added to the reels.
- Mow: The wind totem Mow hits his gong-gong to award a win multiplier from x2 to x5.
The Chi Free Spins Feature
Three, four and five scatters landing anywhere on the reels in one spin will award 10, 15 and 20 free spins respectively, which can be indefinitely retriggered. During the feature, the powers of the two spirits are enhanced. Chi’s random wilds will turn sticky for the remaining spins while Mow awards progressive win multiplier, increasing it by x1 every time he appears, up to a maximum of x5. The win potential on a single free spin peaks at 2,700x your bet when you hit a full screen of lotus flowers with an x5 multiplier.
The Stairway to Fortune
Three Yin Yang symbols will trigger the bonus game. The game will change the scene to display a bet multiplier ladder and the Fortune Reels. Your aim will be to reach the Fortune Reels with the help of Chi and Mow.
Chi draws a random number between 1 and 6. Mow moves the corresponding number of steps along the cloud path of continuously increasing multipliers. The game continues until Chi draws “Collect”, in which case the bet multiplier currently held by Mow is paid and the bonus game ends.
However, the really big money will come when you manage to successfully climb all the way up to the Fortune Reels. A spin on each of the five reels is awarded, and all the collected multipliers from here on are added to the winnings from getting to the Fortune Reels. The uppermost reel has an arrow icon and landing on it will then add the final x10,000 multiplier to the score. Overall, a very fortunate journey may result in a mind-blowing bet multiplier of 12,500 times your stake.
Final Verdict
Chi is another fine slot creation from Elk Studios. The artwork and animations are simply stunning. It will take though a few moments to get used to the vertical game window. However, don’t be fooled by the cute spirits Chi and Mow as the game is highly volatile and will at times diminish balances with no mercy but reaching the Fortune Reels in the bonus game will almost guarantee a super mega win.
