Avalanche and Expanding Game Mechanics Explained

Just like Ecuador Gold, Tahiti Gold is also using an Avalanche mechanic to drop symbols from the top on every spin. Any winning combos are first paid before they explode to make room for new symbols to drop in. After each winning avalanche, the expanding game mechanic activates, adding one row to the game window after every win until it reaches a height of eight rows and 262,144 ways to win.

The game window resets to four rows and 4,096 ways and the round concludes when no new wins occur after a fresh avalanche. The total winning amount is then paid before the next spin starts.

Tahiti Gold Slot Features

Elk Studios created some completely new modifiers for the Tahiti Gold slot that we have not seen anywhere else so far. And the good news is that you can trigger them in the base game and free spins.

The first is Eye of Tiki which will trigger when you land minimum two hot lava symbols with the Eye of Tiki anywhere on the grid within a spin sequence. They will apply a reel modifier once no wins occur on an avalanche. All Eye of Tiki symbols connect and any symbols directly adjacent and in between the symbols will explode to make room for new symbols to avalanche into place. The game window will also expand by one row, providing even more chances to hit another win and keep the avalanches going.

The second reel modifier is the Wild Forge, which has the potential to turn an entire column wild. A stone symbol with a glowing sun may land anywhere from reels three to six. The symbol will stick in place and any position underneath it that is cleared during an avalanche will be filled with a wild symbol. This can lead to having up to seven stacked wilds on a column if the Wild Forge symbol lands in the top row of the expanded game window. The forge symbol itself does not count as wild symbol. The mechanic will have a surprising twist in the free spins round.

While you can score mega wins in the base game, the main potential will be in the Free Spins bonus round. Hit three to six scatters anywhere on the reels within one spin sequence to trigger 10, 15, 20 and 25 free spins respectively, which can be indefinitely retriggered.

The feature will commence with the default 6×4 game window and 4,096 ways to win. It will increase by one row every time you score a win in a free spin and stay expanded for the next free spin. This continues until you reach the maximum size. The number of ways is changing to 15,625 with five rows, 46,656 with six rows, 117,649 with seven rows and ultimately 262,144 with eight rows. The kicker though in the free spins is that the game window will not reset to 4,096 ways after a losing avalanche as it does in the base game.

And that’s is just for starters. Not only can you trigger the Eye of Tiki during the free spins but any regular wild and those created by the Wild Forge modifier will turn into sticky wilds for the remaining free spins. A maximum of eight sticky wilds on reels three to six can be accumulated in a free spins feature, providing the potential to hit some scorching monster wins.

Final Verdict

We rated Ecuador Gold earlier this year as one of the best new slots for 2019, only for Elk Studios to release just a few months later an even more sophisticated and highly entertaining game.
