We were looking forward to discovering how Fantasma Games would design their second Megaways slots after Flower Fortunes as they surprised us with some novel pay mechanics and feature triggers that made the slot stand out from the usual Megaways titles. And we have not been disappointed. The creative team dug deep into their chests to develop yet again new mechanics that will be the key to mega wins.

But first to the Avalanche mechanic and Win Multiplier. As usual with cascading Megaways games, symbols drop from the top onto the reels at the start of every spin. Any winning combination will start a chain reaction whereas they will explode after the win is paid to make room for new symbols to avalanche into place. The spin sequence continues as long as new wins occur after an avalanche. Additionally, the win multiplier will increase by x1 after each reaction. In the base game, it will reset to x1 at the end of a spin.

Central to the gameplay on Medallions Megaways is the display with the three feature stones at the bottom of the game window, showing Wild, Free Spins and Respin. The Wild and Respin features are active as default when you start playing the slot. Thereafter any combination of features can be activated or deactivated by the Medallion. Any activated feature can trigger on any spin when the corresponding symbol lands on the reels.

The Medallion can appear randomly after any spin in the base game. It will spin once to land either on the gold or the silver side. Stopping on the silver side will deactivate one feature stone while stopping on the gold side will activate one or more feature stones. It will trigger the free spins if the Free Spins stone is activated.

The Expanding Wild will be awarded when the Wild Stone at the bottom is active and a wild crystal lands anywhere on the reels. It will expand to cover the entire reel and on top will display a random win multiplier between x2 and x6. More than one landing on the same spin are multiplied by each other, plus by the current Win Multiplier from the spin sequence. This can lead to some insane multipliers in the base game and free spins.

The Void Respin will be awarded when the Respin Stone at the bottom is active and the jade-coloured stone marked with a green crystal lands on any reel. It will remove 2 to 10 non-winning symbols, increase the win multiplier for the spin sequence by x1 and avalanche fresh symbols into place, creating potentially new winning combinations.

The Free Spins are triggered when the Medallion activates the Free Spins stone. You will get 10 free spins which cannot be retriggered. Any win multiplier from the triggering spin will be transferred to the bonus round and will not reset to x1 after a free spin. Instead, it will keep increasing by x1 after every winning reaction until the end of the round, no limits. Plus, both the Expanding Wild and the Void Respin features are activated for the duration of the free spins.

It is refreshing to see how creative developers make use of the immensely versatile Megaways engine. While the mainstream providers have stuck to commonly known game formats, the young Fantasma Studio is surprising us with out-of-the-box formats that are fun to play and have huge win potential.
