The beauty of the Megaways engine is that no two spins are the same. At the start of a spin sequence, symbols cascade on to the reels from the top according to the random selection of ways, ranging from 324 to 117,649. The engine allows anything from two to seven symbols on reels 1 and 6 as well as two to six symbols on reels 2 to five. In addition, you have a horizontal reel above the centre reels where more symbols appear on every spin.

Wins are paid for two to six matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right. Scoring a win will see the symbols in the combo shatter and start a chain reaction. Our initial thoughts when loading this game were that we are facing something of a little brother or sister to Desperados Wild Megaways. The name is similar, the gameplay too and they stripped out one feature from the former. Which begs the question as to why? Desperados Wild Megaways has been very well received in the gaming community and everyone has been waiting for what’s next. However, it is not all as it seems as Inspired added a different feature to replace the missing one from their first Megaways creation.

That honour falls to the tried and tested Mystery Symbols, which can land on the main grid as well as on the horizontal reel, and that in both the base game and free spins. All landing in view will transform into a common pay symbol, but not into scatters or wilds.

To trigger the main bonus feature, you will need to have three or more scatters in view on the main grid at the end of a spin sequence. The game will award 12 Free Spins, plus +2 free spins for each additional scatter on the triggering spin, up to a maximum of 82. Before you start playing the feature you will be offered a Bonus Top Up gamble where you can enhance your round. You can either accept the standard feature or activate a pie gamble wheel with green and red areas. Landing on green will boost your feature with additional +2 free spins for each gamble while stopping on red will award a random cash win as a consolation prize. You can gamble repeatedly or collect your won feature at any time. The RTP varies slightly between 95.81 – 95.95%, based on how far you are gambling your feature.

While parts of Anubis Wild Megaways are exactly copied from its older sibling, it has a new element with the Mystery Symbol. We actually liked the Jail House Free Spins on Desperados Wild Megaways and are rather content to see the feature return on this slot. Although highly volatile, it can lead to insane wins.
