The revival of 9-liners is continuing as Microgaming keeps reskinning some of their old titles such as Thunderstruck and Spring Break. While those slots were hits at the start of online gaming around the turn of the millennium, they look now more like ancient remnants of a time gone by. Only they can understand why they need to torture us with such lukewarm clones, especially in the age where new pay and reel mechanics should allow an established developer like Microgaming to create something that would actually excite us. To be honest, I have little motivation to write a full review for this drivel.

Slot Details

Karamba Clan is a video slot with five reels, three rows and nine fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for two to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. Available on desktop, tablet and mobile, you can bet from 0.09 to 45 credits per spin. The game has high variance with an RTP of 96.10%.

The graphics are unimpressive with pay symbols that are rather difficult to distinguish because of their clumsy design. In the background is a scene with a raging storm and a giant octopus that is supposedly attacking the Viking ship as it is battling the treacherous sea. The soundtrack is pretty generic and has little to offer that would increase the suspense.

On the reels you will find the card royals from 9 through to A at the low end of the paytable, awarding 11.11x to 13.33x your stake for a single five of a kind. They are followed by a range of Vikings props – wooden shields, helmets, banners, battle axes and longships – paying 27.77x  to 83.33x your bet for a single five of a kind.

A Viking warrior is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular symbols and also doubling the win when it is part of the combo. Hit two, three, four or five on a line to win 1.11x, 22.22x, 222.22x and 1,111x your stake. Any pure Wild wins will not be doubled.

Karamba Clan Slot Features

The slot title has very little relation to the theme and seems to be just a generic name that was chosen from a list they have available at Microgaming. Just as generic is the only feature on the slot, a simple free spins round with an x3 multiplier for all wins. Hitting 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will get you 15 free spins and a payout of 5x, 20x and 500x your total bet respectively. The feature can be retriggered.

Final Verdict

Virtually every slot released by Microgaming in the last years makes it harder to believe they are still a Tier 1 game provider. Where are comparable slots that reach the same popularity as Immortal Romance or Thunderstruck 2? Reviewing this latest drivel gave me no joy or pleasure and I can only hope they will step up their game in the future.
