Review
Love Island, the award-winning British TV-show has found its way onto slot reels. Responsible for the feat is Microgaming, although the slot design comes from partner studio Storm Gaming Technology who released already three Love Island slots under the license from broadcaster ITV. A Hot Zone feature and a free spins round with expanding multipliers on reel three can lead to wins of up to 2,083 times your stake.
The show takes a group of male and female singles to a sunny island and drops them in a luxurious villa for a few weeks. We all can imagine how that works out. To avoid boredom and as a break from the nonstop parties, the contestants have to partner up and go through a series of challenges to compete for the prize money of 50 grand, in British Pounds that is. After each contest, one single is getting voted out and the last couple standing after weeks of alcohol, sun, sea and party will win the main prize and maybe, just maybe fall in love too.
Slot Details
Love Island comes in the signature Microgaming 5×3 format with 243 ways to win. You can join the contenders on mobile or desktop from 0.15 to 60 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility and an RTP in the usual range of this developer. We will confirm the exact number once we receive the details.
Visually, the setting is taken straight from the TV show with the reels hovering on a sandy beach with the clear sea in the background. Four male and four female characters from the show dominate the reels together with the ever used card royals from 10 to A. Very fittingly, a palm tree with a setting sun is the wild symbol substituting for all symbols except those islanders landing in Hot Zones. Pays for a five of a kind peak at 500 coins or 33.33x our bet (Immortal Romance and Thunderstruck II anyone?).
The Hot Zone Feature Explained
Before making your first spin, you will have to pick one male and one female islander from the eight character symbols. These two will play a vital role in triggering the features. You can change your picks at any time after a spin in the base game. The two chosen islanders will become the top-paying symbols on the Love Island slot.
The middle position on reels one and five are the designated Hot Zones. Land one of your chosen characters in one of them and any other islander of the opposite gender in the second Hot Zone to receive a coin reward of up to 20x your total stake. Won’t be anything major, but good enough to keep your balance for a while. It gets better when you hit both of your islanders in the Hot Zones.
The Love Island Free Spins Feature
As mentioned, there is a kicker when you land both chosen characters in the Hot Zones. Not only will you get the coin win of up to 20x your bet, but also 10 free spins, which sadly cannot be retriggered. During the feature, any palm tree wild landing on reel three will expand to cover the entire reel. It will also award an x2 multiplier for any potential wins from the same spin. It is however not sticky, so you will need to hit it again and again to actually score mega wins which can go up to 2,083.33 times your stake for the entire round.
Final Verdict
Are we blown away by this Microgaming creation? Well, it is a solid effort but not more. Fans of the TV show will probably queue up to play it as it portrays the actual show quite well. Others might not be that attracted by the dashing female or male characters and the medium win potential.
