Slot Features

Gods of Gold InfiniReels is a video slot in a 3×3 format with 27 ways to win as default. Any win will extend the grid by one reel, no limits, increasing the ways ad infinitum until no further matching symbols land on the next reel (more to that shortly). You can enter the ancient royal tomb on desktop or mobile from 0.20 t0 100 credits per spin. The game has high volatility with an RTP of 96.21%.

Gods and mythology in slot creations are usually associated with either Egypt, Greece or the Aztec civilization. NetEnt took a slight detour and placed their game in ancient Mesopotamia, the land between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. While the background is flooded with gold coins and other ancient items, the reels itself are dominated by mythological characters and various gems. An oriental soundtrack interrupted by dramatic thumps on winning spins rounds off the slot design.

Gods of Gold InfiniReels Demo Gameplay

Among all the shiny gold, at least part of the pay symbols is devoid of the precious metal, making it all easier on the eye. Four geometrically shaped gems in blue, jade, purple and red colours, held on structured stone blocks form the low end, awarding 0.1x your bet for a 3-of-a-kind and increasing to 0.15x to 0.6x your stake for a 5-of-a-kind. From there on, the payouts double for each additional symbol, e.g. 0.3x to 1.2x for a 6-of-a-kind and so on, no limits.

The premiums are four grim-looking undead mythological characters – an owl and an ox as well as a Babylonian queen and king. A single three of a kind will yield 0.25x to 1.25x your stake while a five of a kind ranges from 1x to 5x your bet. The payouts double again for each additional symbol on the following reels. There is also a wild symbol, which will appear from the fourth reel onwards and substitute for all regular pay symbols. A golden sun icon ornamented with a white pearl acts as the scatter.

Gods of Gold InfiniReels Slot Features

Well, shiver me timbers! The Swedish gaming giant taking inspiration from the much smaller Australian studio ReelPlay, formerly known as Chance Interactive. While the latter barely made an impact in online gaming, they have been on a steep upward trajectory since the rebranding and the release their first Megaways slots as well as El Dorado Infiniti Reels. The latter looks like it has served as inspiration for NetEnt.

While the similarities are apparent, which could suggest Goliath has been copying David, it is worth noting that NetEnt filed the trademark registration for InfiniReels in September 2019 or about three months before ReelPlay released their creation in December 2019. Either way, it looks suspicious and the coming months will show whether ReelPlay feels their IP rights have been infringed sufficiently to get the lawyers involved.

But let’s get back to the NetEnt creation at hand. Core to the gameplay is the InfiniReels mechanic which sees every spin starting with a 3×3 grid and 27 ways. Scoring a win will trigger the mechanic, locking in place all winning symbols while adding one reel for every win and thus tripling the win ways. The process continues virtually unlimited until no new matching symbols land on a freshly added reel. The game window resets to the default 3×3 size once a spin sequence ends.

InifiniReels pay mechanic

Sounds confusing? Easy to lose count of what is happening? Not to worry as NetEnt added two displays that will keep you informed of the current spin sequence. At the bottom of the reels is a Minimap, displaying a minimalized version of the main grid. Each low-value symbol in a winning combo is shown as a round dot while the premiums are displayed in diamond shapes, each in matching colours to their respective symbol. A star represents the scatter while a ‘W’ stands for the wild symbol.

The second source of information about the action on the reels is the Symbol Counter to the right of the main game window. One counter will be shown for each symbol in the current winning combo. The top number displays the length of the win, e.g. 6 if you have a win stretching over six reels while the bottom number indicates the number of win ways, e.g. 9 for nine ways of the winning combo.

NetEnt included two random features that can have a significant impact in the base game and Win Spins round. The Multi-Slam can trigger after the first win in a spin sequence. Once the reel expansion started, it will add 2 or 3 reels to the current grid at a time instead of just one reel. And what’s better, it guarantees a win. The second random feature is a Respin, which can trigger only once the reels have stopped and no new winning symbols landed on the last added reel. It will then respin the new reel for a guaranteed win, and thus keeping the spin sequence going.

Win Spins bonus feature

Landing three scatters in view within one spin sequence will trigger 10 Win Spins, which can be retriggered. Any extra scatter will add +5 free spins to the tally. The major kicker in the bonus round is that every free spin will deliver a guaranteed win as the name indicates. The game window will reset to the default 3×3 size at the end of each free spin. Worth noting is that the lowest possible payout is 0.1x bet, hence, do not expect mega amounts in each of this Win Spins because some won’t deliver an actual net win.

Final Verdict

Well, well, well, not sure how to rate this slot. A release in summer 2019 would have hailed Gods of Gold InfiniReels as a real novelty not seen so far in video slots. Getting it into casino lobbies months after ReelPlay’s El Dorado Infiniti Reels has taken that place in the spotlight away and rather raises suspicions of cloning from a competitor. However, while the reel mechanic is identical on both slots, they do differ significantly in the gameplay, e.g. NetEnt’s creation has no win multipliers.

Overall, a well-designed slot that will deliver solid high-volatility reel action with decent win potential. According to the official NetEnt stats, 5,000x bet has been hit once every 16 million spins, 10,000x bet once in 145 million and they even got past the 25,000x mark although it happened on average only once every 11 billion spins in their test simulation of 711 billion spins. Either way, plenty to play for.
