Review
Enter the dragon’s lair to see three little creatures come to life on the slot from PG Soft. Dragon Hatch will see you entering the den with the mother dragon dozing in the background while you spin the reels to form winning clusters and collect symbols to unleash the three dragon babies, each with its own reel modifier. Fill the bar at the top and the mother dragon will awaken to burn the reels for wins of up to 15,000 times your bet.
Slot Details
Dragon Hatch is a 5×5 grid slot with cascading symbols and cluster pays. Wins are awarded for clusters of four or more symbols landing connected, either horizontally or vertically. Although mobile-optimized, you can also enter the dragon’s lair on desktop from 0.20 to 200 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 96.83%.
PG Soft stands for Pocket Games Soft, so you can expect a game layout that is entirely geared towards play on mobile. They mastered the challenge really well and created an interface that leaves little room for improvement. What is visible on a smartphone looks clear and crisp while a fitting soundtrack is minutely synchronized to the action on the reels. Desktop players will be graced with a blurry background of the dragon’s lair filled with gold and treasures.
The pay symbols start at the low end with card royals held on stone blocks – green diamonds, blue clubs, red hearts and orange spades – awarding 30x t0 60x your bet for a full-screen cluster of 25 symbols. They are followed by green, blue and red baby dragons – symbolising Earth, Water and Fire – as well as the eye of the Mother Dragon. Hitting a cluster of 25 symbols will pay 80x to 2,000x your stake. A golden dragon egg marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, substituting for all other symbols.
Dragon Hatch Slot Features
If you ever played Reactoonz or Wild Frames from Play’n GO, then you will have a good idea on how the pay mechanics and features work on this PG Soft creation too. Core to the gameplay and scoring big wins are the cascading symbol mechanic as well as the collection bar on top of the grid. The most you can win in a single spin sequence tops out at a massive 15,000 times your bet.
At the start of a spin, 25 symbols drop onto the grid. Any clusters of four or more will pay a win and explode to make room for new symbols to fall into place. The sequence continues as long as new combos land after a tumble. At the same time, the number of winning symbols is added to the bar on top. Surpassing four increasing thresholds will trigger the respective dragon modifier when no new winning combo occurs after a tumble.
- 10 or more symbols – green Earth Dragon feature: All low-value royals in view are removed and more symbols drop into place, potentially creating new winners
- 30 or more symbols – blue Water Dragon feature: Four wilds are placed on the reels to help create winning clusters.
- 50 or more symbols – red Fire Dragon feature: A randomly chosen symbol, except the wild, will be placed in a checkered pattern onto the grid. Wilds will not be replaced
- 70 or more symbols – Dragon Queen feature: All low-value symbol tumbling into view will be transformed into high-paying symbols or wilds. The feature is repeated as long as new winners occur after a fresh cascade.
Final Verdict
Well, this is a jolly good fun game with three cute cartoon dragon babies hatching as you collect winning symbols while the mother dragon dozes under a layer of gold coins. Looting that treasure is no easy feat as our test runs have shown but once the big beast awakens it will fire up the reels to reward you for your bravery with big wins. Especially mobile players should like it as an alternative to Reactoonz and the like.
