Slot Details

Golden Glyph is a 7×7 grid slot with a tumbling reel mechanic and cluster pays. Wins are awarded for clusters of minimum five matching symbols. Your foray into Egyptian history on desktop or mobile starts 0.20 credits and peaks at 100 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility (3/5) with an RTP of 96.19%.

A postcard-perfect scene of an ancient city on the meandering river Nile with the mighty pyramids is in the background of the gold-ornamented square game window. The sun is about to set after a hot day leaving a misty air hovering around the pyramids and giant statues that were build as guardians.

Four Egyptian hieroglyphs – sea waves, eye, Ankh cross and snake – make up the low end of the pay table, awarding 7.5x to 18x your bet for clusters of 15 or more symbols. They are followed by the Pharaoh, the Queen of Egypt and Horus. Hit 15+ clusters to win 75x to 250x your stake. A golden tile marked with ‘W’ is the wild, substituting for all pay symbols. There are no scatters on the reel strips.

Golden Glyph Slot Features

The game is packed to the brim with features and extras that it makes it hard to decide where to begin. Maybe the Tumble Mechanic would be a good starting point as 49 symbols drop onto the 7×7 grid in every new game round. Any symbols that are part of a winning cluster are removed and the empty positions refilled we new symbols that tumble down from the top. The spin sequence continues as long as new winning clusters land after a tumble. All wins are accumulated and paid at the end of a round.

Next is the Power Wild feature that is available in the base game and free spins. After the winning clusters have been cleared and before new symbols tumble down, one Power Wild will be awarded in one of the emptied positions on the reels. It will be removed if it is part of the next winning cluster, activating one Power-Up feature on the golden wheel to the left of the game window.

Should the spin sequence progress up to Free Spins Power-Up then all unused Power Wilds turn into standard wilds. No further Power Wilds will be placed into empty spots for the remaining spin sequence.

At the start of each spin, five Power-Ups are added to the golden wheel in a random order, however, the fifth will always be the Free Spins Power-Up. The Power-Ups are charged consecutively by hitting a winning cluster that contains a Power Wild. Once no more wins occur after a tumble, the charged Power-Ups are deployed in the order they are shown on the golden wheel.

• Golden Scarab Power-Up: The scarab spawns 4 to 10 wilds and places them on random grid positions.
• Eye of Horus Power-Up: The Eye of Horus randomly selects one low-value symbol and removes all instances from the grid, followed by a new tumble and potentially more wins. Each removed symbol will award 1/20 of your bet.
• Blaze of Fire Power-Up: The blaze is randomly placed on a position on the grid and burns all symbols horizontally and vertically on the same reel and row before a new tumble drops new symbols into place. Each removed symbol will award 1/20 of your current bet. Standard and Power Wilds as well as Golden Glyph Wild symbols will not be removed by the Blaze of Fire.

Activating the Free Spins Power-Up will trigger 9 free spins which cannot be retriggered as such but activating the Power-Up again during the feature will award +3 free spins, no limits. Before the first spin, the special Golden Glyph Wild is placed in a random location on the grid. It will stay on the reels throughout the feature but will move to a new random location on every free spin.

And here comes the kicker. The Golden Glyph Wild carries a win multiplier that starts at x1 and increases by x1 after each winning cluster, all the way up to a maximum of x99. It will not tumble off the grid, instead, the achieved multiplier is carried over to the next free spin where it will keep growing when it is again part of a winning cluster. The maximum you can win in the free spins peaks at 13,185 times your bet, which is the highest Quickspin hit in 1 billion test spins.

Final Verdict

To my knowledge, Golden Glyph is the first proper grid slot with tumbling symbols coming from Quickspin. And it looks rather awesome with plenty of features and extras. Our review was written according to preliminary details from the game studio, hence, we did not have the chance to give it a good spin but will do so the soon they release the demo link and report back how it plays in real. Hopefully just as awesome as it looks as the top win sounds worth chasing.
