A quick look at Wikipedia reveals that Jiangshi are hopping vampires in Chinese folklore depicted as a stiff corpse dressed in traditional clothes who can only move around by hopping with their arms outstretched. While that sounds rather creepy to some, Quickspin gave it a more humouristic tone to lighten up the gameplay and garnered it with, well, lots and lots of wilds. They will be key to scoring mega wins of up to 8,800 times your bet.

We’ll start with the Turning Wilds as they are included in both the base game and free spins. Any Vampire Wild landing on the reels will convert any directly connected character symbol into the corresponding Turning Wild symbol, e.g. the blue guy becomes a blue guy wild. The transformations carry on if you happen to have another character symbol next to a Turned Wild until you reach the edge of the game window. This can lead to a virtual Turned Wild feast as character symbols can land stacked.

Final Verdict

Admittedly that although I travelled extensively in China and other Asian countries in the past, I had no clue what Senpai or Jiangshi means when I first read the game brief from Quickspin. Vampire was a good clue and I was bracing for a blood-filled screen with zombie-like creatures filling the reels. Well, it turned out very different as Quickspin opted for a more comedic approach, giving it a cartoon-like look and leaving the blood out altogether. That might disappoint some fans of the gory genre, yet the more important part is the gameplay. It turned out to be quite an entertaining slot with ample features and action to keep you interested. Definitely interesting is the win potential of up to 8,800 times your bet.
