Magnetz is a cascading video slot with cluster pays across four 3×4 reel areas, each with 12 symbols, as default. The set-up changes to a 3×9 format with two game areas and 27 symbols each in the free spins. Wins are awarded for clusters of five or more matching symbols landing horizontally and/or vertically connected. Available on desktop and mobile, you can bet from 0.10 to 50 credits per spin. The game has high volatility with an RTP of 96.66%.

A view of a heavy-industry production hall in a dystopian human-free factory is opening up when you load the game. Two enormous magnets will draw the symbols across the reels in each spin instead of dropping them from the top. They will grow to a gigantic size in the free spins where two magnets are combined into one. A serene soundtrack draws you in until it changes into dramatic crescendos on winning spins.

There are only six regular pay symbols to be found on the grid, each held on tiles in different colour and marked with a shape. They start at the low end with blue circles, purple moon crescent and green triangles, awarding across the board 15x your bet for a cluster of 20 or more symbols. This exclusive release from Relax Gaming took us somewhat by surprise as it was not included in their usual roadmap. It is currently only available at Unibet and sister sites from the Kindred Group and aims to be a grid slot with a difference. Let’s take a closer look as to what is on offer.

Core to the gameplay is the cascading symbol mechanic with cluster pays. The default game area is divided into four 3×4 sections called quadrants with reel-tall magnets on the inside, which will play a significant role in some of the features. A total of 48 symbols will not cascade from the top and instead will be appearing from either side of the game window, simulating natural magnet forces. Hit a cluster of five or more matching symbols and you have a winner. All symbols from the combo will disappear and new ones slot into place to potentially create more winning clusters in the same spin sequence.

The magnets on the inside of each game area will turn at the start of a new spin and stop on a random pay symbol. Landing five or more matching symbols scattered or in a cluster within the area will trigger the Flux Respin after any potential wins are paid. All symbols are removed and the matching symbols will be pulled towards the magnet on the inside. New symbols will cascade into all game areas and landing at least one more matching one in the triggering quadrant will award another respin. Any new symbols matching the magnet in a different quadrant as well as wild symbols will also be held. The process is repeated until no new symbols are added to the held cluster. All wins are then accumulated and paid before the next spin starts.

The Magnetic Merge activates when two or more quadrant magnets match, combining the separate areas into a single grid and thus making it easier to land five matching symbols and trigger the Flux Respin.

While watching the magnets in action, keep an eye on the middle row spelling B-O-N-U-S. Every scatter landing within a spin sequence will illuminate one character. Accumulating all five in the same round will trigger 5 Free Spins which cannot be retriggered. Two 3×4 quadrants are merged vertically and the middle row is removed to form two 3×9 game areas for the duration of the feature, making it easier to land bigger winning clusters.

Final Verdict

If you are looking for something out-of-the-ordinary, then Magnetz is surely a good candidate. In over 20 years of online gaming, I have not seen anything like it. The mechanics do work well together, creating an immersive gaming experience that will draw you in, not the least because of that serene soundtrack and the max win potential of up to 10,000 times your bet. You will need though a full cluster of red stars and a high wild multiplier to achieve the feat.
