The visuals are as generic as they can get on an online slot. A simple blue background is fronted by a rectangular game window with equally generic pay symbols that try (but fail) to convey some of the charm of fruit machines from years gone by. Some might like it while for others it will be a big turn-off.

Now, having two reels synchronized won’t get you the mega wins but watch out when the soundtrack goes into a crescendo as will start to link three to five reels for the current spin. Meaning you will get identical symbols on all reels. Now, this can be a different one on each row but also a full screen of matching symbols. The payouts for full screens start at 243x the bet.

After playing the game extensively in demo mode and looking at the paytable we are sure that just like on the original, you will not be able to hit a full screen of premiums. The diamonds pay 50x your bet for single five of a kind, having that 243 ways would exceed 10,000x bet, but as mentioned, the maximum you can win in a single spin tops at 1,333.33x your stake.

Final Verdict

Yawn, after having a nap in between writing this review because there is simply nothing exciting to say about clones, my verdict for Lock A Luck is as you might expect by now not very positive. Nothing wrong with cloning or let’s say taking inspiration from other developers but make at least an effort to add your own twist to the gameplay. Players will see the effort and appreciate it.

As it stands now, Lock A Luck is plainly a copy that will never reach the popularity of Twin Spin as the reel mechanic itself starts to get outdated. But as the last few years have shown, it has been very typical for Microgaming to go with designs that bring back memories of yesteryear. Someone should maybe let them know that copying and cloning time and again won’t make it any better.
